MikeHales: The fee is charged by Air NZ, Telecom and others but set up a variable credit card automatic payment and no fee applies.

That doesn't make it right...

so do you have a mobile? The naked cable prices are pretty terrible without the mobile discount, unless you are on a very old TCL plan.

Often card payment fees apply only to credit cards so if you get Visa Debit you can use that and not pay fees.

Still bewilders me why they do this.

A percentage is cheeky. If you have a $500 bill, they get $10 just for you paying the bill.

Payed my Vodafone account online today as per usual and noticed that they are now charging an extra 2% for credit and debit card payments in there portal, not to happy really.

Their web sites says you can avoid the surcharge by using Internet banking.

Good to know.

My vodafone.co.nz account is now dead to me. Only reason I ever logged in was so I could pay a bill.

I'll ditch the pre-pay number if I can't pay via internet banking.

I am on an old plan. I do have a mobile, but it's with Telecom. I guess I'll just put any old made up number in the reference and just hope it works with the other 2 reference details. All I want to do is pay my bill without having to pay the Vodafone tax on debit cards.

Nothing has changed around Prepay, You don't get a bill for Prepay

So actually you should charge a 2% fee for prepay top ups also to make it fair.

How is the percentage cheeky? They don't get that fee, their credit card processor does - and that credit card processor does charge a percentage. Personally though, I'd question if its actually 2% - I'm paying 2.2% on much lower volumes, so if Vodafone is paying 2% at their volumes I would be asking if they went to any effort at all to get a decent commission rate (arguably, now that they're passing it on, there is no incentive to).

With Vodafone charging $1.50 per letter invoice and 2% per credit card/debit card transaction its simply surcharges which in effect is price increases.

Next they will charge us to call their infamous call centre...just wait and see.
