I haven't gotten around to changing ISP's yet, although that's not too far away. In the meantime I went to log into my modem/router today and was instantly struck a change that seems to have occurred. Previously when I've logged in the screen looked like this:

Today it looks like this:

I can't get into it either - neither the passwords I set or the default passwords work. Anyone seen this kind of behaviour before?

I was wondering if it was that, but am not too sure. It was setting up an old laptop with W10 that brought this to light. As you can see from the screenshot below, my wired network (A) doesn't have a name [anymore] and there's a new wireless (B) that I know nothing about. I'm starting to think I've been hacked...

If johnr is around, he would have replied to this thread by now.

Personally it looks like Vodafone has updated their firmware. You might want to ping another vodafone rep here.

Had you changed the Admin password?  If so would VF not have needed that to upgrade the firmware?  Or is there some other backdoor or superadmin privilege that let's them do that?

I'm curious now, will check mine when I get home tonight.

Firmware upgrades are done via TR-069 so they're pushed out. They don't need a login to do this.

I don't think there is anything suspect about this - it looks like VF have just pushed out a firmware update. The default password has obviously just been changed as part of this.

Default login is: admin & then @ and the last 8 digits of the router's serial number.

EG: admin / @12345678

"Admin". I am told login instructions are available on Vodafone help page.

Needless to say change password, make sure firewall enabled, etc.

Thanks for that info, you learn something every day.

FWIW, mine is unchanged (for now at least).

Only just got around to getting the time to look into this - thanks for that. The default used to be VF-NZhg659 but that wasn't working which was quite frustrating.

I can't find anything on their web pages, so I have no idea what VFNZ have done to the router* apart from the following:
1. Changed the colour scheme
2. Reset the Admin default password (vodafone password was still at what I had it set as)
3. Switch off the Guest network
4. Reset the Guest network password
5. Allow all and sundry to access my WLAN
6. Annoy the crap out of me...

No email received advising changes were going to be made and what the impacts would be. @MikeHales - perhaps you can shed some light on what's occurred?

* I do see my line speeds (currently) are faster than they were before. Upload ~2Mb/s faster to just over 11, download ~22Mb/s faster to just over 50.

EDIT: The limited connectivity via ethernet, as pictured a few posts above, turned out to be the Windows 10 installation zeroing out the physical (MAC) address of the network card. Manually inputting this didn't fix things so it came down to a 'Recovery' which reset everything (except the MAC address) after which inputting the MAC address manually (I just happened to have it recorded elsewhere) livened everything up.

There is a firmware update available but up to you as customer if you want to install it (unless our tech guys have already advised).

Appreciate the fast response - somethings definitely not right with what your saying though. These changes have only occurred in the last few weeks (4 max) - I know because I had to allow a new device access to the WLAN recently, and our babysitter, who connects via our Guest network, hasn't complained about lack of internet access - she hasn't been required for the last 4 or 6 weeks.

biggal: is this firmware version HG659-16V100R001C206B020 ??

That's the firmware version showing in my router and appears to be the latest one on the VF website.
