Our Vodafone cable broadband, which has been ok since installed about 12 months ago, has starting regularly losing internet connection. A reboot seems to fix it, but only for a short while, then it drops off again.

 

Strangely, it is only the 2G suffering from this, the 5G from the same router seems ok, so any thoughts? Dodgy router?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel? could be too much noise on the current channel

Is it the Internet dropping or the WiFi and you need to give more / clearer detail does it drop if using Ethernet?

All devices connect to the router via wireless, there is no ethernet.

 

The wifi connection is ok and devices remain connected to the network, it's the internet connection on the 2G network that keeps dropping.

 

The 5G internet connection on the same router is ok.

 

This is a new issue, 2G has been ok since install until this weekend when the problem started.

 

Neighbours don't have wifi, ours is the only network being displayed, so it's not a traffic issue.

So you are saying it's on the 2Ghz (actually 2.4Ghz) WiFi dropping not the 5Ghz, When you say 2G / 5G you are speaking about mobile networks

What is the exact issue? Is the 2.4GHz signal still visible? Can you reconnect after it drops you off or does it require rebooting the router?

 

Do these issues correlate to usual 2.4GHz interference sources such as cooking something with the microwave?

 

Have you done any basic fault finding such as changing channels?

Yes, the 2.4GHz signal is still visible, but no internet connection. Reconnection to the internet requires a reboot.

 

Nothing in the household environment is different to last 12 months when everything worked a treat. Neighbours don't have wifi, and no microwave in house.

I'll do channel change to test, but I don't think it will help as there is virtually nothing around to compete with the channel.

Despite earlier saying there were no ethernet devices, I've just remembered that the Sonos bridge is connected by ethernet, and that is working ok, so does point to some issue with the wifi channel.
