I find this curious.

When you bundled One NZ broadband and mobile together. You got $10 discount. This discount has now been scrapped. I wonder if existing customers will have it removed?

It's starting to look like One NZ is showing it's Vodafone colours again! This is a easy $10 extra without technically increasing the base price.

For existing customers, I would expect One NZ to give notice that the $10 bundle bonus is expiring.
I can understand if they're grandfathering the terms so that any new customers or plan changes will trigger the removal of the credit.

I agree - the wording on the page is a bit misleading. Queuing to talk to them about this as we speak.

Wow, that would be another substantial price increase for those of us who currently receive that bundle discount. There have already been increases on both fibre and mobile plans recently.

Hopefully they have just grandfathered it, although you are right in saying any changes will trigger it to be removed.

It looks like 2D is the only other Telco to offer pay monthly discount, just checked and Spark do not have a bundle option.

That said, prices seem to be similar on One NZ and Spark, except for 2D with the "12mth" discounts, which just reduced the price to what One NZ offered before the $10 pay monthly removal.

Wow 2D offer power now! - I wonder if the other Telco's will do the same?

I'm on chat with them right now... chat is on-going but this is not a good opening:

Hi <NAME RENAMED>. Thanks for contacting us about your concern. I totally understand that you are worried that on our website, the $10 mobile plan discount for our broadband plans has already been withdrawn. Let me check your account to see if that affects your broadband service.

My One NZ account is home to 2x Fibre and 6x mobiles (with group discounts)... it might be time to kick the tires.

UPDATE:

Thanks for patiently waiting. Upon checking your account, the $10 mobile plan discount for your two Fibre connections is still included on them, and you do not have to worry. The new update with the withdrawal of the $10 mobile discount will only be applied to new connections or if you are going to change or re-sign your broadband plan.

@cokemaster - that is a relief that its not retrospective. Although you are welded to that specific plan!

I just shutdown my One NZ broadband and went to Quic. I have found a better overall experience, plus the billing is sooooo much clearer than One NZ.

Glad I did move now..

One has actually improved their billing not so long ago which I'm thankful for (having to choose between ex GST or inc GST was a drag). I'm not too worried about changing plans as they're unlimited and I've had further discounts applied.

I will probably stay as is as long as the pricing and service remains consistent. Whilst I don't personally consume the services (being in Oz), a number of people do and I've found the onshore team very helpful. Having the Jason P bat signal is also very useful to have. One NZ's $5 a day roaming has proven useful for one or two of the users who have ventured overseas, although that being said - mobile service quality in NZ is fairly similar unlike here in Oz where there are significant coverage differences.

That being said - the folks in Hawkes Bay were a bit miffed that their One NZ mobiles + fibre were down considerably longer than their neighbors who had Spark... although I'm willing to chalk that up to different sets of fibre feeds being disrupted.

Yeah, I will stay put as long as I continue to get the bundle discount but I can't help feeling that they will eventually withdraw it from existing customers. Unfortunately Spark is the only other telco that offers Apple Watch connectivity and they seem quite expensive, although you don't hear as many customer service horror stories with Spark as you do with the other telcos.

@cokemaster - You are absolutely right. The billing process has improved significantly. However, Quic is on a whole new level for clarity.

I switched not because of the price but to support a new ISP that has engaged with the tech community and is providing excellent service. This is similar to what Snap! did back in the late 2000s. They were one of the few ISPs, along with Orcon, that offered Fibre when it first rolled out. Although it wasn't very stable back then, their tech support was fantastic, and it took around 12 months to get the bugs ironed out. however, I stuck with them until 2D swallowed them up.

To close out my original post, One NZ has played a sneaky game by eliminating a long-standing discount; whilst it affects only new customers, any existing customer wanting to make any changes will have it removed, resulting in a $10 price hike. I thought One was trying to shake the old "Vodafone" brand..

I have learned bundling services is not necessarily the best option

@Delorean - I think if you dwell on it a bit, you'll realise that it is One NZ trying to do something new with their brand - without being too cryptic - is more related to this post: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=311233

If I could have $10 a month dropped into my One Wallet then I'd probably be happy with that as an alternative to the $10 bundle discount. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any indication of this though?

I'm with OneNZ and hopefully this $10 discount won't disappear when I move house this month (while keeping my fibre/mobile plans with them)

It looks like this has played out as I expected it would. This morning I got an email from One to tell me that they are removing the bundle discount for existing customers. The communication stated that they have added $240 to my One Wallet, and hinted that some sort of ongoing One Wallet contribution will become available as an alternative to the bundle discount.

I have $510 in my One Wallet and plan to use it to replace my iPhone later in the year, so I guess it's fair to say that I am getting value out of whatever credit they put in there.

I've noticed that my 300mbs fibre connection is being billed at $94 whereas the web site shows it as $91 so I wonder if I could get them to knock off that $3 so that I can partially mitigate the loss of the bundle discount.

Except you can only "spend" your one wallet with One.... a discount is cash in your pocket....

Sounds like One wallet has been devised and pushed across the brand as a retention/stickiness device...
