Wow!  I wish I got those speeds!

WxC used to be a good ISP - a bunch of geeks supplying service to a bunch of geeks.

Now they SUCK.  My speed tests from last night - 230K (off peak I've been getting > 7Mb) - and this is what it's regularly like.  I'm trying to run a business from home!  So I call up WxC 'cause this seems beyond anything normal.

"...You should go somewhere else..."

...was the response I got.  Yep, I think I may as well, 'cause I can use modems to get this speed!

I have to say, whoever teh SDM is at WxC needs to give it's help desk a good swift kick in the...Or he could train them in customer service.

Honestly, WxC have got so bad, I think I'll go BACK to TELECOM.  Maybe even get an XT data card!!!  A couple of outages is nothing compared to regular scheduled NIGHTLY outages...which is effectively what I'm getting.

Hmm, besides the usual once a month/fortmonthly outages that everyone gets, I haven't really had any problems with outages on xnet. And the offpeak speed is nice. (Pulling 1.2MB/s from the US atm)
Just the onpeak intl speeds suck ass. 100KB/s max, usually.

Just spoke to one of the SDM types at XNet I used to work with.  He tells me the problem relates to Telecom throttling 3rd party resellers through the exchange at peak times.  Somehow Telecom thought this wasn't anti-competitive... (Maybe they were discussing it on XT... Lawyer:"Throttling bandwith is <crackle crackle> OK.  <crackle crackle> do it!" beeep....beeep...beeep.).

Anyway the short of it is that the throttling policies should be removed from the blessed Alcatel switches within a week.

I'd be interested to hear if the problem persists after this.

I can't take it any more. Gone to Slingshot. Very surprised that moving from Fusion to their Just Broadband + iTalk only took 2 business days and there were no cockups.

It would be interesting to know whether this is a problem with Xnet's particular combination of UBA backhaul, UBR backhaul and Handover links as other ISP's providing their service via Telecom wholesale don't appear to have the same level of problems.

Was at mums yesterday and google maps was giving the thing at the top about it being slow and offering the html version. Gmail does the same all the time on xnet as well.

She wont change because it loads the herald and some other sites just fine for her.

I remember looking at the forums when I signed up for xnet 2 years ago... it was the same complaints and examples.  Since the complaints had been quiet for a month, I decided to join anyhow, and I've had 2 years of reasonable speed internet (~4MB most of the time).

It's just a slow point I reckon - take a few months for it to sort out, and it'll likely be fine.  Remember, there's pretty much no reason why doing a speed test to auckland should be slow, except for basic infrastructure (house, road box and exchange).  (Pretty much = about 3 times as many possibilities, but not likely given the cost to fix...)

!!
How are you getting 4MB/s? Are you on their fibre plan or something?

Last 3 nights in a  row i have been disconnected at 7:00 pm for 4 min each night, regular as clockwork...After my intitial bout of crying about not being able to play wow Xnet has worked fine for 5 months, except for the last week the problems seem to be returning....

What has changed in the last week or so....?

This may seem a silly question, but is your computer connected to your modem via a network cable or a wireless connection? I know that I have fairly poor speeds but because I am using wireless (with medium/low signal strength) it is the wireless that causes my slow speeds, not Xnet.

The time of the day also affects the speed. In the morning I get 4+ MB/s but at night I only get about 1 MB/s at the best
