http://www.vodafone.co.nz/roaming/data-roaming.jsp says 50c a MB in Australia for NZers.

In NZ after 10MB the casual rate is (or was) 100c per MB.

Why is it double the cost in the home country?

Seems evidence of a rort to me - or have I missed something here?

Are you serious? When in Australia, you're roaming outside your normal network, even though it maybe on Vodafone it's Vodafone AU not Vodafone NZ. They are different networks.

50c a MB in Aus is actually pretty cheap considering what the prices used to be!

I agree with you regarding the Aus price.

The implication from my question is not about the price of the Australian data, it seems the NZ data is twice the price - and should it be when one is local?

You're comparing the best data rate in Australia against the worst the date rate available in NZ.

The casual rate is $1 for the first then 10mb then a dollar after, so at 18mb they both cost $9 but in NZ you would buy a 50mb pack for $6 as its better value.

Because I would expect the cost of foreign data to be more expensive or preferably the same as locally available data, not the reverse.

It seems reasonable to me. Should I be surprised that this is not obvious to you?

In anticipation that this needs further clarification, I think that if I choose to honor Vodafone with my custom, then I would hope that Vodafone would do their best to provide as economic and competitive a casual data rate as they can in return. Do you?

I wonder what Mark Sainsbury and his team would think?

The market relatives are of less concern to me. I am comparing what I am given as a Vodafone customer in NZ and in Australia. Other Vodafone customers may have similar concerns.

The casual rate is $1 for the first then 10mb then a dollar after, so at 18mb they both cost $9 but in NZ you would buy a 50mb pack for $6 as its better value.

If I turn on a 50MB pack then I may have to turn it off again to stop it recurring.

Who knows or plans the amount of mobile data they are going to use in advance? Frequently it could just as easily be 6MB or 26MB.

As you imply that you do not realise what I am suggesting, I will try to make it clear for you that the local casual data is, by Vodafone's own international standards, demonstrated to be too expensive.

What is Vodafone going to do about it?

Casual data not that long ago on Prepay was $10 per meg!

Vodafone NZ has no plans to change the casual data rate,

Plenty, I reckon you should sign up to one of our Smart plans, a get 3GB of data for the life of that plan (for as long as you stay on it, pretty good deal, until HDXXX movies are 50GB per file.

Sorry what business do you own and run?

I could be any of the thousands of small businesses looking to be internationally competitive - but with excessive costs compared to my international competitors. I'd like to feel Vodafone was helping and not hindering my international competitveness.

For my business and personal use I'd prefer to look to the future.

How about it Vodafone, perhaps you could look to our futures also?

The cheaper you make the data the more we'll use.

As a business owner I'm sure you'll understand the following;

Customers want cheaper data - tick
Customers want faster data - tick

In order to service point two above, ISP/mobile data providers need to invest significant capital in upgrading current equipment to service the desire for 21/42Mbps+ speeds.

Yet, the consumer want more of the fast stuff for less.....

Am very keen for your input on how you would solve this problem with whatever business you are in...

Well already Vodafone's telling me how to run my business - and they know nothing about it!

I guess its ok for Vodafone to tell me how to run my business, but not the reverse?

Come on Vodafone, bring down the casual data rate.

Our casual rate is currently one of the best available. It only gets better on account or with one of our prepay bundles, welcome to pretty much the only industry that has consistently dropped prices over the last five years. You get more [faster] for less.

Out of interest, what is your ideal casual data rate?
