Very good. Can’t wait to move to the XL plan when my renewal comes up.

I'm searching every post on the forum about kogan. Is there any catch with them? How can they be that much cheaper than the other providers?

I've been with them for a while. The following spring to mind:

  • No outbound special (four-digit) SMS codes (receive works fine), video calling, international calling (except I think Aus?) or anything else that would normally chew up some extra credit or turn up as an extra charge on the next bill. Everything is paid for 100% up front. Probably makes billing a lot simpler for them.
  • No rollover, unmetered data times, or other sweeteners. Use it or lose it.
  • Haven't needed to contact support, but the others are supposedly hopeless enough that I doubt there's a difference.
  • No stores or other fanciness.

Otherwise, there's nothing super major.

no catch

only need to make sure you have vodafone reception

i am trialling kogan and reception where i am and everywhere i go is terrible. in Dunedin. will be going back to Skinny/Spark at the end of the year.

could be my phone but it's a S22 Ultra generic (from Samsung NZ)

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I'm in Wellington, and had been with Vodafone once when I had my previous work pay for my contract and they seem to be fine here. But I remember when I was with 2degrees (10+ years ago so my memory is a bit vague) and I think they were on Vodafone's network back then and I didn't have a good experience.

It's tempting to YOLO and pay a year upfront on their prices, but I don't want to get stuck on a bad deal, specially since I'm buying for the entire family (4 people, all currently happy on Skinny).

I'm currently on Skinny, so can't reply to special SMS 4 digit codes already. What mobile provider does video calling? I suppose you're not talking about WhatsApp or FaceTime here?

I think VF used to because I tried it out once or twice when 3G was new. It's supposed to be built into 3G and circuit-switched line a regular call, just with more bandwidth. Seems like no one supports it now though. I wanted video calling without Facebook/Apple/Google/Samsung lock-in, but apparently that's not something we can have.

You can get a $5 starter SIM that comes with 15GB for a month, try it out, then splurge for a year. You do need to give them a CC and remember to cancel auto-renew to activate the $5 SIM, though.

2 degrees announced a year ago they were ending support, and pointed people at... Apple Facetime, Google Duo, and Whatsapp. Doh.
