OK, so I seem to be in a bit of a predicament.

I have been trying to upgrade my PC to the 'Creators Update' and have tried a couple ways but have not had any luck so far.

Method 1, I tried using the windows upgrade assistant software. The software downloaded the update, did it's thing and proceeded to restart my PC and upgrade it. It gets a few percent in and then my PC hard shuts-down and reverts to the previous version.

Method 2, I tried a clean install. I used the Media creation tool to make a bootable USB with Windows 10 Pro x64 on it but the tool downloads and installs version 1511 and I can't update so that's out.

My hardware: i7 6700k, 16GB DDR4, GTX 1070, 240GB SSD

I could be doing it wrong or I have completely overlooked something so feel free to let me know.

Parents-in-law running two laptops with Windows Creators Update installed. Bought a Spark mobile hotspot device for them to use while on the road. They used these two laptops to pretty read Stuff, Trade Me, emails (Google Sync for Outlook). I've set the connection to metered (and Norton AV correctly says "Changing to metered" when it detects this WiFi in use so the OS knows about it)...

However these two laptops used 2.7GB (out of 3GB mobile data balance) in five days and parents-in-law say the laptops restarted yesterday after installing Windows Updates - on a metered connection?

So called "critical" windows updates will still be downloaded even when connected to a metered connection. I have no idea how many fall into this category.

My experience with the previous major windiws update was OneDrive re-syncing everything, ignoring the metered connection status.

Creators Update uninstalled Windows 7/8 Games.... again. Each update this happens. Very annoying. Stop uninstalling apps!

There will be an exact error code. Short answer uninstall AV and unplug all peripherals except mouse and keyboard and try again. Long answer, might be more to it if that does not work create. a new topic. There will be a lot of detail.

I'm not sure why it would download 1511. I used it last month and got Creators.

I have a little Acer 2-in-1... 3Gb, 4Gb ram... I have 9.48 Gb free and the update requires 8Gb free.

It gets about 20 minutes into the install (after downloading and verifying), and then tells me I don't have enough space!!

Stupid updater.

Not unless it's created during install...

I'm just annoyed because it says I have the space, and then fails because it doesn't have the space, and anything that has consumed space, since the original "Have enough space",  has been created by the update!

Edit: Bored and it's Sunday so I'm going to use the media creation tool to either "update this PC" or do a fresh install.

I'll be back.... *

*hopefully.

Edit2: Option 1 of Media Creator installing the update went around in circles 4 times. Trying option 2 of creating the media and doing a fresh install... Funnily enough, it still needs 8Gb free space to do that (and now the Mrs is streaming "neighbours" and my download is slooooow AF).

Windows Store now won't start, showing error 0xD000000D:

I tried running the troubleshooter for Windows apps and it says I need a Windows account - but I'm logged in with a Windows account:

@nathan I have upvoted a previous report of this from months ago.

Getting more and more unhappy with this "Windows as a service" thing.

Last night I was not able to sign into microsoft jigsaw, but sudoku and minesweeper were fine, as was the xbox app.

All the logins are done with the app, I have not allowed my windows login to be associated with my hotmail address because I want this PC seperate.

Anyway, it came right after a while. The store gave me a stupid hexadecimal error message once but then worked again. It's just so flakey and slow I find when opening apps for them to log in to the windows account inorder to let me choose the daily things and actually have them count.

I decided to refresh the Windows 10 install on my laptop. On the good side I didn't have to install any of the old HP drivers - even the fingerprint reader now works out of the box.

However there's nothing more infuriating than a fresh Windows install that downloads OneDrive files TWICE because it craps itself. All 100GB of them.

Also why is that OneDrive for Business had files stored in \username\Onedrive for Business and now it's on \username\OD? Why change folder name in every single version of these software? Just to cause confusion with backup software? "As as service" doesn't mean "change everything with new releases". Also it should mean constant fixes, not waiting months to get updates with new features.

Windows Store and Norton Family are working again. Until the next time Windows as a Service decides it's time to screw up again.

An update in the past couple of weeks has at least fixed my few months of continual problems since I installed the Creators update.

My main desktop machine also runs my NextPVR service for TV recordings. I started to notice that after the machine had been up for 2 days that recordings would start recording 10 mins late. Probably 10+ hours of working on this issue over several weeks lead me to the core issue - after around 48 hours of uptime the machine would do all sorts of strange things with the network settings/service. Pings from the command prompt would start failing and the reason why NextPVR would fail was because it couldn't connect to the IP address of the tuner, yet after exactly 10 mins could.

No amount of driver updates or messing around made any difference. While I was away for 2 weeks in early July an update obviously came out that fixed this as things now work fine again.
