I have a variety of clients who over the last couple of days now have 5 all in one PC's from different vendors who can't login. When you get to the click on your user screen it just blanks out and flashes and then returns.

Safe mode won't let you login in at all, it just gets stuck. The interesting thing is that all 5 are AMD powered running Win 7 Home Premium and this has occured over the last couple of days.

Anyone else seen this? At this stage I haven't found a fix except for possibly reinstalling Windows.....

you need to reboot into safe mode and remove the update KB3097877 hope this helps.

Could it be related to the update mentioned here (KB3097877)?

Thanks for the replys, as I noted I can't login with safe mode, I get the blinking screen and it doesn't bring up the desktop so can't do a system restore or uninstall :-(

As above, OP says can't log in to Safe Mode. 

Do a Google search for KB3097877 and there are methods to uninstall it.

Home Premium doesn't support inbound RDP sessions.

The fix for me is to boot into startup repair by pressing F8 at boot time and then getting to a command prompt and manually uninstalling the patch as follows:

 

dism /image:d:\ /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB3097877~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 /scratchdir:d:\temp

 

The ” ~amd64~~ ” is for a 64bit system
I would assume you’d replace that with ” x86 ” for a 32bit copy of windows
