Hey guys, anyone got their WHS set up as router? Interfacing the WAN (ADSL/Cable) and LAN? I've been thinking of building a WHS to act as a router, NAS and media sharing, have it on a gigabit switch and relay wireless network via a 801.11b/g/n access point to wireless devices and the rest on ethernet.

I'm keen on getting one of those dirt-cheap Compaq atom-based micro system unit, and add another low-profile network card to connect to my TCL cable modem, and the gigabit ethernet to gigabit switch etc...

How much media sharing are you planning to do on the Compaq system? Without an upgraded harddrive there wouldn't be a huge amount of storage capacity. Plus Intel limit how many SATA ports they can have (2), and they are ITX and only have one PCI slot.

Yeah one PCI-E slot and enough to put the secondary gigabit NIC. I have 3 external USB HDD that I will use, and with built-in HDD be enough, just want to know if WHS can be configured as router or not.
