Quite link this - https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/jun/20/petition-netflix-cancel-amazon-prime-good-omens-christian-neil-gaiman-terry-pratchett

I've got the eBook - and what a giggle. Typical Terry Pratchett.

Have noticed that when people discover a Religion and become so called serious Believists, they loose their sense of humour. It's strange they haven't petitioned the book publishers. Mind you they would properly picket Reader's Digest instead of Gollancz Ltd. But I supposed these 'Return to Order' campaignists and the 'US Foundation for a Christian Civilisation' members are discourgaged to read, that is why their bible is properly still printed in Latin. The gender of this particular deity has never been proven but the majority of these 'strong faith' organisations have always been masculine in nature.

So She properly is also having a good laugh. 🤣

Faith is individualistic and immutable and incorruptible. Religion is a social construct, made by Man for Man to explain Faith, therefore it is fallible.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

"How I paid $12k off my credit card"

Let me guess. Cheque? Bank transfer? Cash?

NPCtom: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has baked a cake

I clicked on that ... and I might be wrong but it looked like she got a sponge from Countdown, sliced it up and tipped coconut all over it.

As for the the story, it has so many grammatical errors, it looks like a 10 year old wrote it.

I had a quick read-through of this article; as someone who's always paid off my CC in full every month I was only tangentially interested, but I was blown away! The Amazing Solution was - drumroll please -

PAYING MORE THAN THE MINIMUM REPAYMENTS EACH MONTH!!!

Who would have thought?!

Perhaps getting a credit card should be conditional on showing evidence of having at least a modicum of financial literacy.

And perhaps there's something wrong with a system when an individual somehow is issued 10 different credit cards...

Right.

Bearing in mind the interest rates on CCs, I'd expect people to pay off as much as they can each month. In which case, if someone is only paying the minimum amount, either they're financially innumerate, or they CAN'T pay more. I wonder which category this article was targeted at?

That is what I thought. I maybe thought to read the NZ Herald instead of Stuff but I just cannot stand the paywall on every article that isn't an ad.

You clicked on that? Was it the clicking equivalent of pocket dialling? Jogged by a passer-by? Your child? Dog?

The tagline on Stuff's homepage was "Every first homeowner has uttered the words: 'We should enter The Block.""

Pretty sure I don't know anyone who has uttered those words, let alone watched the TV show. Also pretty sure that "Every First Homeowner" hasn't uttered those words.

Not sure what the article actually says, I refuse to click on it.

This guy doesn't know, or care, that people will never be given a legal euthanasia option, for loss of limbs.

Euthanasia is not assisted suicide.

Euthanasia: A doctor is allowed by law to end a person's life by a painless means, as long as the patient and their family agree.

Assisted suicide: A doctor assists a patient to commit suicide if they request it.

New Zealand is not legalizing assisted suicide anytime soon.

Euthanasia is not for loss of limbs.

Perhaps the editor should have noted no one is talking about assisted suicide.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/euthanasia-debate/113428458/instead-of-offering-assisted-suicide-lets-help-those-who-are-suffering

Instead of offering assisted suicide, let's help those who are suffering

by Richard Rutherford

We should encourage those wishing to end their life instead of assisting them with their death, writes Richard Rutherford.

"When I was 16, I was in a high-speed crash that caused me to lose the use of my legs and to suffer many other injuries.

Through many operations, and pain that has taken a toll on my body and mental well-being, I am very happy to say I've found peace with my injuries. I now have a somewhat normal life, filled with good people, support and hope for the future.
..."

I also suffered what I believe to be post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which really took a toll on my mental well-being.

There were times where I would shut myself away for days, not wanting to face the condition I was in.

Now, I'm not offended by this, but in this day and age, should this phrase really be used in a publication such as Stuff?

It's supposed to be one word as it's an acronym: Total Inability To Support Usual Performance.

Interesting, I never knew that (and I used to use the phrase regularly). How many other people don't know that and think of the more obvious connotations?

Nope. It is of military origin and usually means something is dead - it's a bit sexist as it means a female body will float with belly up, while male bodies float with belly down.

FUBAR (farked up beyond all repair) is an acronym. Tits up was not - that acronym came after to jest/justify it. Just look at one always being used all caps and the other not.
