OK, the off-topic component of this thread made me decide to micro-rant:

The price of soft-drinks:

1.5l = $2.99; $0.20/100ml

2.25l = $3.99; $0.18/100ml

600ml = $4.00; $0.67/100ml - WTF??? Talk about price-gouge.

Mind you, I guess it forces me to be healthy and drink less of the stuff, because damned if I'm paying the inflated price, and I refuse to buy a 1.5l or 2.25l bottle just because I'm feeling a little thirsty...

The 600ml is usually cold, whereas the others are room temperature ones.

But when I see a dairy that has the cold 1.5's cheaper than the 600s, damn straight I am getting the 1.5 and drinking from that. Just throw the remainder out when I am done with it.

Another annoyance, when couriers go to the neighbour house despite mine having a clear number on the front of it, find noone home and then leave a card at the house which annoys the neighbours since they then take it to my mailbox.

And it's not uncommon at the supermarket for 2.25L to be cheaper than 1.5L - WTF?

And at some places they have 2L bottles in fridges, which are a *lot* more expensive than off-the-shelf bottles.

And, of course, water is more expensive than Coke... why can't they sell the cheap water that they use to make Coke?

I worked on the construction of a very large brewery in Indonesia a few years ago, and the process wastewater, when bottled, was worth more than the beer.

Higher packaging cost per 100ml. The plastic isn't much in it as you'd expect, but more bottles used compared to the 1.5 and 2.5l plastic equivalents

Since someone mentioned couriers and I can't remember if I've already posted this:

When couriers don't even bother to try to make the delivery.

The last two times stuff I've bought has come via one of the companies, the driver hasn't even bothered to open the gate. (I can hear it from my room... Just like I can hear the sound of the mailbox opening when they drop the card in.)

Today I'm working on a very old and very convoluted system, and my complaint is around automatic documentation generation.

The method "SaveClick" is called when the Save button is clicked. Meanwhile the auto-generator has documented it as "saves the click". It takes a parameter called "s", and the documentation tells me that this parameter should contain "the s".

You Tube videos titled so that they come up in what is likely to be a common current search term (e.g. latest mobile phone review or something) which are in fact either nothing whatsoever to do with that subject or are poorly re-hashed clips of other people's videos with advertising for the re-hasher's business appended.

Infuriating.

I bought a Soda Stream last Xmas.

I drink sparkling water rather than alcohol or pop and get through a litre a day or so usually.

The SS has saved me approximately 350 plastic bottles going to landfill and $2.50/bottle less whatever the CO2 cost per bottle is - around 50 cents or so I think.

I tried some of the flavourings (I usually avoid them due to the vast sugar content though) and there are some lemonade ones that are really nice. The cola ones are fine too.

Not saying it works for everyone but man you can save some money doing it that way if the flavours suit.

Ditto. Like hard hats on sites where there is no overhead work and nothing happening - do they think the sky will fall on people?! And if it does, what use will a hard hat be? They have no straps, so they will get knocked off...

Also cycle helmets. Head injuries are not actually that common in cycle crashes. Here in Martinborough people tootle gently between the vineyards on bikes all summer long. Where a Panama or straw Boater would be more appropriate apropos the sun etc, they must look like eejits in racing bike helmets that they really do not need as the roads are virtually empty.

Fair enough if you're racing a mountain bike, or commuting in mental traffic, but here in the vines, not so much.

I see a lot of farmers round these parts replacing quads with those ATV things that look like quads with a roof. Much safer I am sure.

Cost of packaging and shipping 600ml cans is SIGNIFICANTLY higher.

Ask a neurosurgeon if head protection saves lives. OSH is the to save lives not annoy.
