I'm in the same boat... placed an order on the 28th for $589USD - Approx $937NZD. They've put a hold on my CC of $937 but I now see they've updated the invoice with $78 Tax to $668.

The hold is still on my credit card and hasn't been transacted yet so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of days - seeing as everything has already shipped.

i bought two items separately on 29th. both shipped and charged during the 2nd. the first item shipped had tax, the second item did not. Luckily the second item was the expensive one.

Geektastic: I have to say that I can't work out why GST is charged on shipping costs paid in another country to an overseas based shipping company.

If you lived 5 km from the airport, the part of that service enjoyed in NZ would be miniscule.

You don't have to pay GST on shipping from one foreign place to another, only on the last leg of shipping to NZ.

Purchased on the 28th and shipped on the 2nd Dec, no GST added from amazon for mine.

Same actually. My CC was charged pretty much immediately, as my item shipped within 2 hours of my order on Black Friday.

That's what I was hoping would happen with mine - all the items said "in stock" so I was expecting them to send and charge my card promptly (which has usually been my experience in the past)

Instead they took 7 days to ship it and silently added GST without any warning :/

So the hold on my credit card has been reversed (no charges from Amazon showing on the transaction list now) and the funds are now showing as available back on my balance again..... I assume they will try and charge the full amount including tax now... except my card has a 1k limit so adding the tax will push it over and decline I would think

I rate Amazon really highly for customer service, so long as what you are asking for falls within a set of parameters. If the issue is complex, then they don't cope very well, which I do understand. Taxation is well above the pay grade of anyone you are likely to speak to or chat to in person and as such I'd imagine the chances of getting taxes reversed are very low, or will be worked around, by simply providing some other form of discount like a gift card, to assuage a very unhappy customer. In most cases though, where there is a potential legal issue or a policy, they won't budge, no matter how much you try and I usually assess this before raising issues to save myself an aggravating and unsatisfying experience.

I knew when I ordered there was a slim chance I might get pinged with GST, so before I ordered I made sure I was happy to buy it at the higher price and be pleasantly surprised if it wasn't.

All the talk of what they can and can't legally do, has little bearing on what they will or won't actually do, and whilst it's possible you could come out on the winning side, the cost in time is likely to cause it to be cost negative unless you don't place much value on your time.

My grandfather used to say "pick your battles" and this is one of those times in my view.

Thanks. With significantly lesser value items they have just been let to pass thru customs without the need of assessment :)

I was under the impression given the automatic charges being adjusted outlined here that during a transition date As ebay are a 'marketplace' that trade over 60k/yr to NZ. If they've not had a chance to obtain it and declare correctly on the SID the GST actioned. Customs could grab and charge under the new LVI? Else there could be some heavy capitilising in the last week of Nov

I think you're right. I'm seeing the same signs of pretty much every company that can't be bothered with non-simple issues: they send the customer into a perpetual cycle of "we have escalated your issue, please keep waiting" until the customer gives up.

True. I bet if there is some selections going on theres sure to be even larger than normal christmas delays!

I'm somewhat in the reasoning to protect local suppliers being a bit of a tough drive call. Not everything comes off the shelf easily here. Imported some plastic star wars costume parts last year, I get pinged $180 extra later - I can't recall the exact category they decided to categorise it under (I mean, noone here pulls PVC moulds of this particular costume!). While a 2nd kit from the same supplier to someone in wellington the same week didn't.

Had I got it under these new terms, since the supplier doesn't ship that much to NZ would be exempt :/ I probably should have stood ground on that one and asked reasoning for picking up 1 and not the other. Sigh.

Mine did this 2 days ago, then got charged last night for the non gst amount
