The U has a drip tray that attaches with a magnet, so is pretty good for bigger cups. I.e. anything bigger than the ones on the ads..

The countdown pods > warehouse pods.

Nespresso patent expired this year, so expect the market to flood with cheapies..

Strongbad1905: Was in countdown shopping tonight I see they now sell a nespresso like machine and pods that say " compatible with other leading brand machines" but I couldn't find the cost.

I saw the countdown ones today. Not a bad deal.
$149 including 4 of their pod boxes. Incidentally these retails for $6.99 a box of 10.
I recently bought the wharehouse one which is more than adequate. Our Krupps machine is back from repair so now we have the best of both worlds

Brought some Countdown capsules today.

They appear similar to The Warehouse ones, except they're packaged locally so there's no clue to their actual origin.
Taste appears similar for the one cup tried soo far

I currently own a ~$3-$4,000 Rocket E61, and i'm seriously considering moving to a $100 pod/capsule machine.
I usually drink something akin to a piccolo / machiato / cortado - a short strong flat white.

In a hotel room recently, I had a very nice looking pod machine (not a capsule one) and I was really impressed with the quality of the coffee as well as the speed and simplicity of making the coffee and cleaning up .

Anyhooo, I came home, did a bit of a search, and found this thread quite useful.

The Nespresso U seems to be the machine to have, and is now available for $340.
The Warehouse / Countdown machines seem almost identical and can be purchased for $100.

Questions:
1 - Is there any real differences between the Warehouse (Kensington) and Countdown (Capodcino) machines?
2 - Anyone know where in Auckland I could go to try one of these machines? (ie. taste the output)

I don't know about tasting the output of the two machines you mentioned, but the Nespresso store in Newmarket will allow you to taste their capsules.

We have a Nespresso machine, and while we have tried the cheaper knock off capsules, we've found the taste to be quite inferior, so we only stick to Nespresso capsules now. And we're not what I'd consider to be coffee snobs by any stretch of the imagination.

I also have to agree with you regarding the capsules, I bought one pack of each type of capsule they had at the Warehouse and the coffee wasn't as nice as the Nespresso capsules, I found it more bitter.

Coolio, i'll pop along and let them tell me why I should pay 3-4 x as much for the Nespresso U.

Strangely streetview shows a Starbucks at the address for the store, but i'm sure it's hidden there somewhere.

I used the warehouse capsules for a bit. When taking into account price they were superior to the nespresso ones.
But the local branch has been out of my preferred for a while, same with online store.
So I tried the countdown ones. Even better.
Cannot ever see me buying of nespresso again at their prices
