lokeynz:
We were at our wits end with random cats using our cat door to steal food/spray/fight our cat.
I locked the cat flap and put one of these outside. The problem was solved within a few nights.
Does it work on people? 🤓

Nah, for that you need to track down an Edwardian electric tablecloth.
kingdragonfly: I had stray male cats come inside and spray.
When I caught one spraying the cat food, I had enough.
I use a cat flap with a RFID read just for this reason. They tend to last at least 6 months on batteries.
I have no affiliation with the company. And yes they are expensive.
I second this. Worth every cent. Solved the problem of strays spaying inside, and now my cat has a safe sanctuary and is much happier.
Just a little update. We have locked our cat flap now. Ours can get out but not back in. He doesnt seem too worried. He normally lets us know when he wants out and then stands at the door peering in when he wants back in! Hes definitely much more settled. And yes keeping him in 24/7 was an option but he loves to sit on the chairs out the front and watch cars.
I installed a new catflap the other day but forgot to lock it. Bad BAD move! We woke up to that devil cat having come thru the house spraying again.....
I have taken to giving him a soaking with the hose every time I see him now and I dont see him often anymore which is good. His friends also seem to have stopped coming around from what I can see. They will also get the hose treatment if I catch them.
New people have moved into the house the devil cat came from so hopefully hes over there annoying them rather than us!
We did contact Lonely Meow but they said they have no space and gave us other people to contact who also have no space for wayward cats.
johno1234: Sounds like you’re on top of things. We leave our cat flap unlocked during the day but need to remember to lock it once he’s in for the night and have occasionally forgotten leading to unwanted visits and loud meowing stand offs in the wee hours.
I’d invest in a chip sensing one with timer schedules but our boy is getting on a bit so probably left it a bit late.
We did consider a chipped catflap but hes 20 and realistically not going to be around much longer and theres no plans to replace him at this stage.
