I'm not waiting on any parcels, but did hear about this story

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/05/online-shoppers-vent-frustrations-as-shipping-delays-increase.html

The story provides a little bit of context as to the volumes being handled by two courier companies.

I'll second things seemingly returning to normal. Ordered something on Sunday morning, shipped Monday morning, out for delivery now (Auckland --> North Canterbury). That's pretty impressive considering what they've been up against. Even got a text saying it was out for delivery and where did I want it put if I wasn't home.

Seems hit and miss to me.

Ive had some things turn up a day or two after ordering (which is normal). Others I am still waiting for many days later. E.g: Im waiting on a delivery from Dunedin to Auckland that got to Highbrook quickly but has been there for 5 days for now.  We're also waiting on a small package from Wellington that has been over 2 weeks now.

I've been getting a few packages with tracking statuses saying "Unable to deliver please contact us" and before I've had a chance to call they turn up

Maybe a wrong button press? dunno

Someone I know had an interesting NZ Post experience!

6th May from Auck to Chch depot on 15th May

18th May with courier for delivery! We got excited.

19th May processing at depot. Oh well ok.

Today parcel gets delivered by postie with a bit of a story! Apparently sat at local depot for over a week and was misplaced into his next door neighbors PO Box. Which makes you wonder! Clearly addressed and no PO box number on the parcel... But we got the parcel :-)

Still my boy is waiting for his game, but that might be unrelated. I guess all delivery services are running behind at the moment.

I am looking at buying something from a store in Christchurch, they offer NZ Post or courier as options for shipping to me in Auckland - what would be my best option for fastest delivery at the moment?

Hit the Tamaki depot and still waiting. Been sitting on delayed since the 16th.

Pretty average service. they need to fix their first in last out problem real quick as ive ordered other items after this and have already received them

Yes. In the New Normal, Click and Collect is the way to go. However, do note that during Level 3, a lot of shops were struggling with Click and Collect due to social distancing requirements. Cutting out the courier is a safer bet as I don't think they will ever set up for the volume (and fair enough too as no one really predicted the pandemonium).

I would also be very careful about buying from overseas unless it is shipped via something like UPS or DHL which have their own cargo flights. All the passenger airlines are in disarray and normal couriers go via passenger airlines.

Tracking an Aliexpress parcel using their app it says departed country of origin, Parcel app says arrived at destination airport (for 2 days now), NZ Post says ready to send - is this maybe to do with the hand over to NZ Post where it receives a different tracking number so the tracking of the original number ceases? The Parcel tracking status makes the most sense but the NZ Post ready to send term confuses me as there is no explanation for this term on their site.

Slightly off-topic - since it's about airmail rather than Courier Post - but has anyone seen this article in Stuff?

The article matches my experience completely - I've not received anything sent by standard airmail since late March. The whole service literally seems to have ground to a halt. I now have 14 items (that I know of) missing, mostly coming from the UK, and a few from the US and Singapore.

I can understand delays, and air traffic arriving in NZ has certainly dropped off in general, but the whole service just quietly stopping outright after nearly a century of international co-operation and a world war seems absurd. I know for a fact that airmail services through the US's USPS and the UK's Royal Mail are operating pretty much normally.

Has anyone received anything by airmail recently, and does anyone know what's actually going on?

My son put my RC into a curb at speed in the first week of level 4. A $7 part was all I needed... It ended up glued, broke, glued, broke, plastic weld, broke and so on.

Managed to still bash it for a while each time. Now i'm away laughing.

I have a package from China ordered in January I think... took about 2-3 weeks to dispatch and then hit this... still not received but at least it's in the country now.

They should consolidate deliveries. CP currently have 3 packages of mine going to the same address... put them with the same driver on the same day and deliver at once... seems faster. I bet they each turn up on different days :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.
