Might that be an easy out?  Put the change through Parliament, it fails, UK stays in the EU. Sound like a great and likely option to me.

It's sounding like the formation of a plot line to a new series of Game of Thrones to me.  England's going to need to find someone to tame the wildlings North of the wall - to help stave off the invasion of white-walkers.

In hindsight, the UK referendum was an utter shambles.  The post I linked to where the term "post-factual democracy" was used describes it perfectly. People voted to leave with no understanding of the consequences, that being just one example. I don't know what implications there could be as well to reignite the troubles in NI.

DaveB:
Nicola Sturgeon announcing that she believes that Scotland can veto the referendum for some legal reason or other and rumours that there are no clearly defined exit strategies in place by either side.

Apparently consent is needed from the Scottish (and N Ireland and Welsh) parliaments to enable legislation for the UK to leave the EU.  The Scottish parliament has been given a very clear mandate to remain in the EU, thus to block "brexit".

The Scottish parliament can withhold it's consent but it's just advisory. The Westminster government can and will ignore it.

There's no point in discussing ways brexit might be blocked no matter how bad an idea anybody thinks it is. It's done and dusted.

The referendum is not binding, so it's not done and dusted.

The government have no option but to implement it and they know it.

If they don't, at the next general election their vote would collapse as the majority of their voters come from middle England, exactly the same people who voted for brexit.

UKIP would inherit the disaffected and probably become either the largest or second largest party in Parliament. So the question of brexit would be permanently on the table.

And if brexit was ignored how would the EU deal with a country where over half the people who voted don't want to be part of the organization. Britain would be a very bad influence on those other restive countries in Europe

TBH I think both parties are better off without each other. The EU can move forward without the drag effect of the second largest member always demanding special treatment and Britain can move forward without the constraints of the EU.

Win-win in the longer term as far as I can see.

Another forum I am on has this in the FUG. Posts with multiple (irrelevant) quotes are summarily deleted, and repeat offenders are temp-banned (3days) and later perms-banned if they continue. Keeps threads clean and conversations easier to catch up on too.

I have added this to FUG and reset the FUG to everyone.

I think that would be too harsh for a non-specialist forum like this one, I wouldn't want to see people being banned or posts deleted for such a reason.

What staggers me is the buyers' remorse

e.g. "I voted Leave but I didn't think it would actually happen and now it's actually going to happen, I wish I had voted Remain"

Were people voting to make a point and thinking it would never translate into reality?

Well with millions of voters difference, a few voicing an opinion like this probably isn't representative of enough people to make a difference either way.

Having said that, the people who voted that way hoping it wouldn't happen or who buyers remorse just shows the absolute stupidity of those individuals. Almost defies belief. I can only hope they don't breed.
