I watched something called Enter the warriors gate on Netflix with some mates recently. It was utter garbage. I could hardly believe at the end it said 'written by Luc Besson.'

Wow, he's really gone down hill.

Avengement 8.5/10 Im a bit of a Scott Adkins fan seeing him come up through the B grade Kickboxing type Action hero movies, so my score is probably swayed by 1/10. But this shows not only his supreme martial arts stunt work (some of the best fight scenes in any single movie I have seen) and his actual acting skills. Ive been waiting for this guy to make it big time in hollywood, hes had a couple of borderline movies but more the script writing and plots sucked. Now hes not having to put on a US accent but a cockney one (I dont know which one would be harder if not an east ender). Id rate it up there with Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Vince Vaughn shedding the B grade comedy roles and showing just how well he can act, but I think this movie was better written. Its just a shame Scott Adkins wasnt the lead in the last Kickboxer, but then his much higher ability to act would have ruined the role lol. Its a simple Narrative type movie with SHED loads of violence and some good acting/violence from Scott and its british not american.

Mile 22 5/10, Id give it a 7 if Mark Wahlberg wasnt as bogus an actor as his brother is a rock star, that and like Scott Adkins I really like some of the martial arts sequences Iko Uwais has done in the last 5 years.

Ted 7/10 Id give it 9/10 and its sequel if aforementioned Mark Wahlberg wasnt in it. Seriously how did this guy get given "acting" roles. really it comes down to Seth MaCfarlane being a comical genius let alone his voice acting skills. The guy is funny as .... even without the voices. He sense of humour is his 6th sense. Ive seen both these movies a few times but watched it again last night. The bit that sticks out this time was the actor dancing to Tiffany, dont know his name but he gave that everything lol

Adrift 4.5/10 I like these kind of lost in middle of nowhere type movies, but even though this is a true story the acting sucks.

Have a few more I will list when I remember what Ive watched in the last few days.

Blazing Saddles

Watched this online (legally, but can't remember which of the many services I have that I used for this one) and had forgotten how much I really enjoy a good Mel Brooks caper from a time that was less PC and more ... um ... edgy?

Utterly ridiculous - especially Mongo and the baked beans scene.

9/10 from me.

^There's "less PC" and there's racist homophobia. A few Mel Brooks films fall in the latter. It was a different time, and they're good films generally, but that doesn't mean that society doesn't accept those sorts of jokes just for political correctness. We don't accept them because we're self aware enough these days to know what's right and what's wrong.

Ad Astra - saw it on the Extreme screen at Sylvia Park. 4/10. Everything about it was great except the story (if you could call it that). It was as if theyd been given 10 different scripts and someone picked a few pages from each and made the movie. There was so much of the movie that wasnt needed.

Visually amazing on that screen, and the sound system was "wow" - those subs really do their job well :D

Suburbicon 7/10 Matt Damon in a George Clooney directed plot about murder and mayhem in suburbia.

Part written by the Coen Brothers and it shows although not quite up to the standard of their own movies.

Hereditary 7/10 Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne star in a reasonably creepy witchcraft story.

Toni Collette really has the face for the tortured mother role these days.

Listening to other people once it was over, nobody seemed that impressed with it and were just downright confused about what they had just watched.

I agree wholeheartedly, but in my opinion, Blazing Saddles is one of those Brooks' movies that deliberately uses the racism/sexism/misogyny in an ironic and clearly satirical manner.

Couldn't agree more. Went and saw it last night - whilst visually amazing, the whole story line was all over the place, and never really wrapped up completely.

Was really looking forward to it, and walked out feeling quite meh about the whole thing.

I really enjoyed Ad Astra (literally "to the stars") - 8/10. But I went expecting more of "2001: Space Odyssey" than "Gravity" or "Interstellar" or "insert recent space movie" so I wasn't disappointed at all. And my pulse never went above 80 beats per minute for the entire movie - that will be a significant negative for many viewers.

I could pick at the holes in the application of future technology in the movie - the director mentions at least two bad choices in the interview below - but it was still more convincing than all the other "travel in the solar system" movies I've seen.

The biggest issue is that the director, James Gray, originally wrote the story in 2011 while trying to get "Lost City of Z" to the start line. I noticed that there are some common themes in the two storylines e.g. fractured father & son relationship, searching for something with single-minded purpose, facing setbacks from people in power who don't understand, plus some more that I won't mention because they reveal the plot.

Im someone who waits for online streaming over going to the Theatres, but the Mrs has got 2 for 1 tickets at Events cinemas. Can anyone recommend the best action or similar movie on at the moment? No chick flicks, drama, or comedy. Fantasy adventure ore action etc.

Speaking of which

I was so looking forward to the Dark Phoenix after I watched all its trailers, only to read the horrible reviews. Really dissapointed.

Looks like I will be renting Spidey Home Coming today instead.

I watched "A Simple Favour" on Neon in the weekend.

Lively plot, a few twists and turns and overall an enjoyable dark comedy that I had no idea even existed...

Well worth a watch if you have a couple of hours to kill...but not a must see.

Been looking forward to seeing this on the large screen. I knew this movie has divided audiences, so I deliberately kept away from all reviews (including here) until I saw it tonight.

I thought it was an outstanding film. My only minor niggle, I would have preferred less voice over. Maybe they will take a leaf out of Blade Runner and reduce some of this from later releases.

Visually outstanding (esp. on the large screen) with a beautiful score and a strong on-screen performance from Brad Pitt - but it was Tommy Lee Jones who, with only a limited time on screen, was absolutely exceptional.

Having now looked at the reviews on GZ, I am honestly perplexed by comments that the script was all over the place. It has a strong existential focus and is quite bleak (yet at the same time hopeful) so I imagine it will fall short if looking for an action sci-fier. But, then, again, this is a film that has divided, so each to their own.

Potentially a future cult classic, I think this film will grow in reputation over time.

9.5/10 from me.

I watched Vice on the weekend based on your post (and the trailer).

It feels wrong to say I "enjoyed" it (given some of the heinous acts Cheney is shown to have done), but it was certainly entertaining to watch. Bale is great as Cheney, but Amy Adams as his wife Lynne, Steve Carrell as Donald Rumsfeld, and Sam Rockwell as Bush are also great.

What I found really interesting about the film is that, despite the obvious "leanings" of the film's writers and director, there are moments where Cheney comes across as a sympathetic individual. I think it's good when a film can acknowledge that, however much they may dislike the person they are chronicling, few people are all "good" or all "bad." Most people are a mix of both, to a greater or lesser extent, and the film feels a little more mature for being able to show moments where Cheney was genuinely human.
