I've dozed off once at 50kph... woke up as the wheels scrubbed along the kerb. Trust me... this is something you don't forget. So I don't think there's actually much point in reporting the guy to the cops -- he's almost certainly learnt his lesson and won't do it again.

That's what I was thinking too.

But the problem is recognizing that you are getting drowsy early enough. If you fall into the trap of "It's only another half hour... I can manage that" when in fact you can't, then ten minutes later you probably won't be able to make that decision. Much more sensible is to pre-plan your drive while you're wide awake and thinking, with rest stops as recommended by the AA and NZTA.

I've only felt I needed to stop because I was too tired once. It was heading from Auckland to Hamilton, which is just over an hour's drive for those who don't know it, late at night back in 1998. So I stopped in the road works gravel storage lay-by just out of Ohinewai, which isn't quite half way, and was out like a light almost immediately only to be woken by the cops half an hour later asking why I was stopped there. I got a little bit short with them and said "What the @#$% did it look like I was doing before you woke me up? I felt tired so I stopped for a rest." I guess I could have been a drunk, but still - I'd have been a semi-responsible drunk!.

3) Inconsiderate prats who drive at 87 kmph in the right lane on the motorway forcing people to go into a middle or left lane to pass. Oblivious to flashing lights and tooting.

Or even 100km/h. The right lane is NOT the cruising lane.

I passed a mate on his left on Thursday night while doing 100km/h and gave him an earful the next day. He was the third car in the line but NONE of them should have been there as evidenced by the fact I passed them all on the left.

Purchasing a Grabaseat fare where the $49 cheap fares for my preferred return flight were all gone, so ended up purchasing a more expensive return one - and then seeing the same fares for the same February date range advertised again 10 days later with a $49 fare on the return flight - Grr Air NZ....

Out of office auto-replies.

Fair enough if you're on leave but when you're "away on business"? What year is it again?

The fact that NZHerald still uses it's own platform for video, which results in shorter, lower resolution playback that is unreliable at best and freaking horrible at worst.

Example. Won't play.

Played fine for me. Looks like trash but it worked. The sky logo in the corner looked better than the rest so may be their source not the herald.

Played now. I wonder if it's something to do with the video not being finished uploading. Nice bit of sportmanship from the guy who tried to tackle him to clap the good try.

The mini-budget, 6 week old baby....nothing (earnings). Three siblings who are retired or have a spouse who is, are loaded and still working, $450, $450 and $700 a year winter heating grant. Good on you Winston!

At least I can rib them and call them the “energy millionaires”.

Companies which ask for a review of a product that you have only just received!

No wonder most reviews are useless, the user hasn't even had time to use the item to learn it's failings!

Worse when you get asked to review it *before* it arrives!

The trend these days of people bitterly complaining to the media about issues caused by their own actions.

Example: Woman warns ... of Uber price surges

Basically, she booked an Uber during a busy period; didn’t bother to check the price [AND was aware of surge pricing]; got stung with a hefty bill after the surge multiplier applied. Now is complaining that Uber “was capitalising on the fact lots of people were in town trying to get home“.

Well, duh - that’s EXACTLY what Uber’s surge pricing is for; it’s their business model; it’s well known about [even I know about it and I don’t use Uber!].

Sigh....

The disparity between the time contractors take to do whatever it is you want them to do and the time in which they expect you to pay their invoice.

The first can be measured in glacial aeons; whole species can evolve and go extinct between the initial "Yeah, mate - that won't take long and we're not busy so should be done within 2 weeks" to the final completion. The second is measured in mere days.

I instructed a contractor to do something 12 weeks or so ago, which has (just) been finished. The invoice...requires payment in 7 days. I think I will wait 12 weeks, thanks.

People not indicating, it has become an epidemic.

I think all traffic cops should just spend 100% of their time ticketing those that don't indicate, and up the fine to $150-200

Might change the poor attitude towards driving in general.

They also likely catch out a lot of drivers with no warrant, no rego, no licence and other outstanding issues.
