Does anyone know why farts smell so strong? Shouldn't there be some evolutionary explanation for this? Does it improve survival prospects in some way?

Yes, I know this is off-topic but I don't think it warrants a separate thread.

This article touches on that, but maybe it's because sulphur-containing compounds are usually bad to eat?

Fun with software... many of you will be aware that some systems use 1/01/1970 as their default value for date fields. A friend that was born on 1/01/1970 says that whenever he submits a form that asks for his DOB, it's about a 50:50 chance of whether it'll accept it, or whether it'll complain that he hasn't entered anything.

I usually enter my birthday as 1/1/1970, and I can't say I've had any issues with it. I can see why it could cause problems, but if the programmer didn't consider this case then I'd think twice about submitting any personal information to the Website.

Well he certainly may have been exaggerating about 50:50; I haven't tried it myself :)

Ok, I had to read that, as well as the comments ..

One on particular would be a classic for the "You know when you're old" thread:

At my age you NEVER trust a fart.

People who end phone calls with 'bye, bye, bye, bye, bye' - one 'bye' is sufficient, any more than that you sound like you're saying, in a passive aggressive way, for the other person to f-off.

Yes, but how do you politely get that person to f-off when they just don't take the hint and keep going on and on with their empty, meaningless waffle? Pretend to be dead? Make static noises and say you're losing reception and hang up?

Similarly, "Can I help someone please?" when standing in a queue. I find that extremely rude.

I'd much rather tell Indian ISP scammers to f-off than to say bye bye bye

They feed on that. Much better to tell them they have a really sexy voice, and do they look as good as they sound?

We just received a "sneak peak" of a new project at work. In reality it's very flat...

Got a notification one of my sites went down... Guess it's time for a new provider, this is about  the third time it's happened, they even moved me to another server node last time (last week). Sad as they were cheap, now I know why.

Been very happy with Vultr in Australia. I use it through Cloudways that manage the OS etc. But if you want full root, just go for Vultr directly.

I'll check them out, this was super cheap, like $40/year cheap so I can't complain TOO much, and it's only a tiny site that's hosted, but still.
