SaltyNZ: Well, certainly not the government.

Yes I agree that my confidence in these people is not high any more.

I wonder about the merit of not giving them enough money to do a job properly, but also giving them more money/resource than we should.

I agree with what you're saying about checks and balances.  I don't feel I understand enough about what checks and balances are in place.

I guess this is why I do write 10 pages at a time about issues.  I want to understand them and I don't just want to be convinced with text message size answers...  and sorry Mav that, that causes you to want to reach for your gun, and perhaps I'm just slower than some to come to a degree of understanding.

freitasm: Just received the Intel NUC, with a 128GB mSATA SSD. It came "memory-less" so I've added 4GB I had here handy and going to install Windows 7 Media Center later today. This thing is tiny! Wireless card built-in, three USB ports, one HDMI port, no ethernet.

Hmm - I was thinking of making an xbmc with a Raspberry Pi but one of these might well be the perfect replacement for my HP x280n which is, tbh, a piece of crap. Sorry to keep things on topic.

Why do Apple so drastically change the nano design, the 6th gen was great, the 7th ... not so much.  These are the real issues the government should be investigating.

I bought Bella her first Apple product for her birthday - a purple iPod Nano. Didn't know design changed, will ask for money back.

Out from Opahi Bay into the Mahurangi Harbour. Haven't been out often - got my boat last year but either the weather has been too windy or we have been doing something else that day for most of the year.

Got out on Waitangi day with a mate, and the following day with my wife. Bugger all on Waitangi day, but we got 13 nice snapper the next day in beautiful weather.

*Sigh*

Nice... we tend to go off the Whangaparaoa Pen, in the Tiri channel, usually come back with something worth throwing on the BBQ/smoker :)

My sister caught a 10lb+ snapper, (66cm long) last weekend on her 1st fishing day out for many years, and on her second drop, using a tiny bit of squid on a ledger rig. Off the back of Motuora Island, 24 meters. Beginners luck, and so much for the adage of big-bait, big-fish !!

And my partner caught a slighty under-size kingfish on her first day out just days before !!!!

All I got was a damn fat Kahawai !!! Smoked up nicely with a bit of soy and honey ,,, mmmm

LOL, yeah it happens...  I prefer using squid over pilchards, hangs on longer and makes the fish bite a bit harder but my mate normally buys the bait, so I dont complain about what it is we use ;)

Think I need to get my rock gear sorted and head out again soon since it dont look like the boat will be heading out anytime soon...

Given up on land based fishing around the local area - need to get out to those remote sites where the bigger fish still congregate.

Grey weather like we are having now makes a good excuse to hug the coast line with the boat, avoiding the more open waters.

As for bait, have been using fresh jack mackerel from the local Pak N Save - $3.99 kilo - cheaper than most other stink bait, and lasts pretty well from all the pickers. Bonus is that one can always smoke up the mackerel if the fishing is particularily tough :-)

I thought of creating this feature on Geekzone but some people couldn't get their heads around the idea...

Oh Usenet, how we do miss you. A kill filter might be nice, but is it really necessary?

BTW: *plink* was the sound of the "lightweighters" hitting the kill filters, if my memory doesn't deceive me.
