Every time I check the tracker it seems to be dark over NZ.

This. Anyone actually seen it here?

All the figures I've seen mean it would be hard to spot with the naked eye. (Brightness/Magnitude of +6 to +8 sort of thing).

Using the site and location, it will be here in 22 days, dawn and/or dusk. Unsure why dawn or dusk I would have thought between dawn and dusk if overhead, lasts one minute

The Earth’s shadow. Satellites usually vanish when they travel overhead as they pass into the shadow. The nearer to sunrise or sunset, the smaller the shadow, so the longer they remain visible.

I know that. ISS is visible at many hours. Not dawn or dusk. Mid evening is ok as at 400km it gets the suns reflection.

It is. I assume the Sun orbit will be a large orbit, so it will be there forever probably. But its must have been authorised, which is possibly more a I want this and I am doing stuff, so they let it ride

Yep, into a Heliocentric Solar orbit, it'll pass by Mars at some stage on it's orbit of the Sun.

Distant future archaeologists will ponder over this and decide it had some kind of religious significance. No-one ever seems to think that a pyramid or moai or henge might have just been built for the hell of it, as an ultimate declaration of 'because I can' .

Maybe. Any spacefaring civilization has probably, early in its own timeline, also sent stuff into space 'just because'. If it makes any difference to you, it will probably disintegrate into bits. Whether that's good or bad, is down to personal perspective, I suppose. Radiation Will Tear Elon Musk's Rocket Car to Bits in a Year.

Personally, I think it's cool. It hurts no-one. And if you're rich and smart enough to be able to launch cars into space, then I think it behooves you to do so.

Well they needed a payload to prove it works so rather than send a chunk of concrete out there why not do it in style and send a tesla.
