Hi Johnny
are you looking for a NZ Communications test fax number or a generic one for any provider in NZ?

Any posts are personal comments and not that of my employer

This one is provided by TelstraClear: 0508 500 499.  Fax it any page of text, if your station ID is set correctly eg +64 x xxxxxx it will fax you back what you faxed it together with a report.

I believe Telecom NZ used to have a similar system but it was decomissioned a while ago.

Telecom used to have a FaxRight service (0800 108 208) but it seems to have disappeared, apparently it has been discontinued.

TelstraClear have an alternative - FaxCheck on 0508 500 499 which has nice pretty output.  Send a fax to the above number, make sure your full 'reply to' number is set-up on your fax, and you will receive a detailed fax back, showing Signal levels, and graphs of Equalization and Phase delay.

The only problem with the TelstraClaer fax check is that it rings you back 5 hours later  saying thanx for using us. Like  at midnite  last week at home when i used it..

OK, well it's now 2012! :) and I can't find any fax test numbers in NZ that work anymore.

The Telstraclear one now gives a no such number tone :(

Anyone help?

Cheers, Duncan

People still use fax machines?

It's 2012 people!

That's hilarious, random Insurance companies. They always seem to have their fax lines open. Would offer to send the fax to my work but we are only open for another thirty minutes.

Yes, they do.  Admittedly it's been more than five years since I've used mine, and I've cleaned a considerable amount of dust off it and it's taken me half an hour to get it reasonably shiny.  It smells of Lemon Pledge now :)

Faxes are still a receiptable form of communication, e-mail is not (how many times have you e-mailed something important to find out sometime later that, "naa, we never got your e-mail" - what can you do?).

Conseqeuently, registererd mail is still doing quite well.

At my work, we have a Sharp Multifunction with inbuilt fax, we do about 5-10 faxes a day for the general public to various places, usually something to do with passports or insurance.

Been near a lawyer or concluded the sale of a house recently,
The fax machine is still alive and kicking for these professions..
