f you're on Genesis for your Gas, might pay to check your recent bill if it seems high.  Mine was around 5 times higher than usual, even though usage was normal (havent fired up the winter heaters yet!).

Upon comparing the recent bills, i see that there is a "Meter Factor" used in calculating the kWh consumed.  This has increased from around 0.9 to 4.9 thus resulting in our consumed energy being over 5 times higher than in previous months... hence the 5 times higher costs.  This "meter factor" is an odd one - i searched their website and found no reference to what it is.  There is no explanation on the bill either.

I've emailed genesis energy (their contact us web form failed) and am awaiting a reply.

Seems it has something to do with temperature and atmospheric conditions at a site.

quoted from http://www.energylinx.co.uk/gas_meter_conversion.html
The correction factor is used to take account of the temperature and atmospheric conditions at a site.

"The correction factor is used to take account of the temperature and atmospheric conditions at a site. It is generally of the order of 1.02264, so we have defaulted to this"

so that would make the 4.9 figure seem somewhat abnormal and the 0.9 figure more likely.

Yep, Id figure the 0.9 being more realistic too. Great to see one of the Genesis reps here and ready to help :)

Just remember to verify that user is actually from Genesis before you hand over any sensitive details.

Phishing is alive and well on the internet.

Hmm, I was wondering how Rochelle found out about this thread. After all, Geekzone is not the usual haunt of an Admin Team Leader. Was Rochelle alerted by a regular GZ viewer ??

Not the first time someone stepped in from another industry to help a GZ'er out. But, nevertheless, very good to see an active interest from those outside.

Now, I have this recurring rash .... :-0

Rohelle is the same person that replied to my email to customer care so she has all my details and i'm waiting to hear the outcome.

I'm told that the web contact form that failed is being looked into as well.

Good to see that the issue has been responded to quickly in both regular and social media - extra points go to Genesis Energy for that!

P.S. the reason i'm using Genesis for my Gas is that it works a reasonable amount cheaper than everyone else.

Good Morning Regs

I can advise that the meter factor increasing by 4.9 on your invoice was a Billing error and has now been corrected.

We are currently investigating as to why this occured to ensure that the issue is avoided in the future.

A email has also been sent to you with the billing corrections.

We sincerely apologise for this error and trust this has resolved your issue

Thank you again for bringing this issue to our attention

Ragnor: I love happy endings.

Ah, thank you for that flashback to my holiday in Thailand.

In other news, Genesis' response and Regs' general experience with Genesis Gas have me looking forward to my upcoming gas install!
