Hi There!

I am interested in hearing about your favourite takeaways in the central or main part of Auckland.

Perhaps in the format of the name of the place, the type of place (Indian, Pizza etc) and your favourite dish or thing about the place and where it is.

The other thread was all over the place. This one is limited to central Auckland.

Occasionally, Rasoi Vegetarian on K-rd between Queen and Pitt. It is basic but always reliable. Not the standard things you get at other Indian style places, it is more like street food I would say. Get a selection for maximum satisfaction and try everything they have. Dishes usually change every couple of days or so. Occasional favorite is the green banana curry dish - I avoided it for a long time but it is actually great in combination. + No waiting.

The ambiance is more or less cafeteria/foodhall style.

I agree this one is better for Auckland specifically. Contributors welcome.

Hee's Garden Takeaways are reasonable for most dishes.
Simla in Mt Eden for Indian (I think that's the place that has the spicy challenge).
Velvet Burger in the Auckland CBD for Burgers
Fish and Chips I don't mind the Mt Roskill Fisheries
Thai - No Question, it's Lannai Thai on Mt Eden Road (3 Kings end), Tusk and Classic Thai are also good.

+1 for Hee's Garden (Chinese) and Simla (Indian) in Mt Eden

I also rate:

Oh Calcutta (India) in Parnell
Mekon Nua (Northern Thai) in Kingsland
Narm Thong (Thai) Mt Roskill
Jans Cafe (Turkish) in Kingsland

Going to Thai Archer (Thai) in Royal Oak on Saturday so will see how good it is shortly.
Went to Sitar (India) in Mt Eden last week, food was good service was below average imo.

My new favourite is Turkish Cuisine (kebabs etc place) , towards the city end of Dominion Rd, Mt Eden (opposite Nandos and Westpac)

Nicest guy runs it, always very friendly and the food is tasty as.

nate: thanks. I'm gonna give that a go. The Kebab stop opp ASB in Mt Eden is my current one, and before that my absolute fav was Kebabs on Queen, but KS is quite expensive now (Still awesome on Rice), and KOQ is nowhere near as good as they used to be.

Ask for Apple tea, that stuff is crazy addictive.

Actually, interesting you say that, there is a place in lower hutt called the black olive which has the best food, and they have hot apple tea which is amazing. When we were in Aussie we had some as well, amazing.

nate: I tried that place and was reasonably impressed. Pity the apple tea wasn't take away! I'll be back. Pity they (kebabs in general) are so messy to eat!

Glad to hear!

We (my partner and I) go there semi regularly - I'm slowly making my way through the different items on their menu.

The Kebab shop is now my new favourite.

I had been eating at Super Turkish Kebabs round the corner in Balmoral, but in the 2 weeks or so a "D" health sticker has appeared in its window. Not good advertising, although I have eaten there for years without a problem.
