I started a Wireless broadband to fibre migration with 2degrees for a Parent.  Without logging in, I completed the fibre order and put the wrong address (by 1).  I did add the current account number when it asked if we were a customer.

Yesterday it took effect and I couldn't get it to work, and then later found the address problem.

So today, rang up and got a reconnect on the correct address.  But as part of reconnecting, the the wrong address internet has been cut off.

We've spent a bit of time with the wrong addresses ISP to get that reconnected (Spark), and hopefully will all be solved by this afternoon.

Just curious as to how I could essentially get a neighbors property disconnected like that.  If I sign up at "insert random address here"  then cancel it  the next day, it seems they get disconnected.   With no verification required.

I fully accept I screwed up here by entering the wrong address, and maybe it's a real edge case.  But it seems like it shouldn't be something I can do.

They used to have provider + account number validation, but I think people found this too hard - so, they scrapped it.

I can see provider being an issue with the number of white labelled services these days but surely the account number or even a phone number linked to the account is not too onerous, perhaps even the name, I'd have thought.

Reconnecting they've told us to identify the ONT, but the original (wrong) connection request, had no requirement to get the ONT serial.  Probably would have stopped the problem from occurring.

If a nurse checks you hand tag matches the chart and instructions each and every time before they administer whatever…then how hard can it be for a telco to match account details to the street address concerned with said account.

You don't stand a chance here in GER. The ISP's ONT or even the directly connected, customer-owned fibre Fritzbox (w/integrated ONT, hence you can‘t simply swap a fibre Fritzbox) must be assigned a unique address by the ISP. Otherwise there is absolute silence.

Yes. Every ONT here have a serial number associated with an address. It should be a requirement to move addresses. Sure, it might be a problem if you are buying a house, don't have access to it yet but want a seamless transition on moving day. But there must be some way of preventing this happening.

Chorus removed the requirement some time ago for a churn to require an account validation.

Australia's NBN has recently mandated that invoices from an ISP must include the circuit ID number for supplying to the new ISP if churning.

Chorus at least needs to implement some sort of authentication because it is possible to cut off any random persons internet service with the only barrier being the new ISP possibly having sign up/connection fees associated with an order.

Its a high trust model between Chorus and their client ISP's.

Personally, I have always tried to obtain the ONT serial where possible.

Its not like someone punking someone to get their net cut off would care about that when using a compromised card number.
