Unida: well, i must say it is a nice change to see 4MB/s on downloads @ 23Mbps

Whoa I don't even see that sorta speed on an 27Mbps connection lucky if I top out at 2.5MB/s although once I saw it reach 2.9MB/s for all of 10 seconds LOL are you sure your syncing at only 23Mbps as that works out to a top speed of only 2.875MB/s not 4MB/s

the modem upstairs is connected at 41,163 and logs around 36-38 Mbps on speedtest.net via a hardwired pc

im on the wifi downstairs 11n connected at 300Mbps to the modem, and speedtest at 24-26Mbps

lemmie try grab a screen shot of downloading something...

using IDM dling thru rapidshare multi threads etc

fluctuated slightly but was close to this most of the time

i might try some dl tests on the hardwired pc 2moro night to compare

single file was 3-3.4 MB/sec

* modem sync @ 41,136
* hardwired pc upstairs speedtest.net 38Mbps
* wifi downstairs (me) 11n connected at 300Mbps to modem
* wifi speedtest.net 24-26Mbps
* downloads via rapidshare 1 file 3-3.4MB/s - 4 files at once 4-4.4ish MB/s

i realise this is basically what i just posted above, but easier to read for anyone else dropping into the thread.

My understanding is it'll increase download speeds across the board at the cost of upload. It increases the bandwidth for download on DS1, moves US1 up to a higher frequency and allocates US1 less bandwidth compared to 997.
Removing the artificial upload limit will help on good lines, but will make the upload sync on average-poor lines worse. Not at all happy about this, as my line is rather poor for VDSL. Gets 20/4.5 on a good day with DLM1.

After having a look around there are a few other ways Chorus could increase VDSL sync speeds. For example enabling upstream band 0, reducing the SNR and enabling Vectoring and/or G.INP. Whether any of these will happen or not, is another matter though.

Overall not looking forward to the band plan change, and there's no UFB on my street until 2018.

My brother in law who lives across the road and whose POTS line shares the same route as mine, ie from the cabinet, under the footpath and up the same pole before it splits off over the road to his house. He got VDSL installed yesterday.

His total line legnth would be about 10-15m more than mine but would br under 100m total, so will be interesting to see how his connection eventually settles and what his sync speed and attenuation is.

Yup the sync is at 40 but the max speed test result over my WiFi is that 26mbps which is what I got the 4mbit/s through

just picked up a new usb high gain 300Mbps adapter, a tp-link wn822n http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NETTPL0822

noticeably better

before i was getting a 24-26Mbps result at speedtest.net with my old wifi card

the new one produced:

using 11n 20M ch07, wifi connected @ 144.5Mbps

and basically identical....

using 11n 40M ch07 wifi connected @ 300Mbps

just thought id share an update with everyone, i think im happy enough with the current setup and default modem so far and it seems really good for wifi.

shouldnt really use channel 7, should use channel 1, 6 or 11 as they are the only 3 non overlapping channels.

Nice to see.

As expected drop in upstream for 8b lines (although US0 being enabled is nice).

Yet to be confirmed, but 9dB profiles seem to be the new 12dB for 8b lines.

17a looks to be flying in the 20~30 mbit mark on upload while 8b sits under 10mbit, So should be noticable as to which profile is active.
