My daughter and providing as much stability for her is my priority "going forward" so staying close to her friends and school in Outram is key for the time being, we have a renter just around the corner. Fibre duct passes us on the other side of the road.

But yes each house I look at does have a search on the Chorus network site done.

It is good that both the Labour and National parties have put forward policies to help us Rural areas out a bit ...

Sorry didn't see your response. Could you maybe go closer to Mosgiel? Maybe halfway between Outram and Mosgiel, yet still close enough to Outram and still get copper? That's probably your best bet at the moment.

Yes it is as bad as I claim it is, refer the graph on the very first post, while I can get line rate at night when sleeping downloading Linux ISO's and backups, during the evening when you want to watch Lightbox streams as I tried with the Invite I got (thank you Lightbox) the congestion makes that type of modern usage impossible. Wireless RBI with our usage is not going to happen unless we see basically unlimited when 4G happens. Wireless ISP is an option but moving into "The Renter" causes issues in the short term, for us at least.

We do have a lot of interest in town for a better service and whoever actually delivers a better service in the end and markets it well could end up with a nice earner.

I laugh at this, There was a thread about slow speed on a vodafone Cable connection. No ticket logged until i asked a 3rd time..

I find it quite ironic that you can have a local meeting with a large number of people, including Clare Curran who has been very vocal about this issue, and yet as you point out not a single customer has logged a fault.

sure, a single complaint isnt going to do much compared to a big rally and meeting, but it all adds up eventually...

I would have thought at this meeting one of the topics would be to get everyone to log a congestion complaint with their ISPs. One complaint isn't going to be noticed but if it's affecting 50+ users who all make complaints then someone might take notice.

If New Zealand had a second international cable, rather than just the Sothern Cross Cable, Outram would have UFB. We need more international bandwidth in our country.

Through my ISP (Slingshot) I did do a congestion complaint around the 24th March and Chorus did charge a NFF (because they are supplying above 32kbps) which Slingshot were very gracious to not pass onto me. I would be reluctant to suggest to families here to log the same complaints as it would be unfair on them if their chosen ISP did not absorb the same fee.

I am sure Chorus are well aware of their congestion issues on their network and suggesting otherwise would only show how inept they are at looking after their customers and hiding behind a 2007 requirement based on dial-up usage of the Internet. We are in 2014 and Chorus really need to step up and not suggest that they are going to let their EUBA network succumb to the same congestion the BUBA network has as they are with their current ComCom filings.

I bet your ISP decided to do a truck roll.

The copper network hasnt changed much since 2007, broadband technologies have not advanced. Copper is being phased out. Its completely still relevant. Its that pr0n is now 1080p and people complain. <- thought i would add that as no one takes this seriously no more.
You are getting 10x the regulated throughput, I know people that barely scrape it and they accept its due to where they live. Outram has RBI and 2 WISP's. Those people i know have not got RBI and no WISP's.

Having more competition with additional links out of / into NZ wouldn't help in this instance as the fault is on the Chorus network from the local exchange to the handover point for my ISP. It affect all traffic to all ISP's...

pR0n aside the interwebz is vastly more "rich" than 2007 when the 32kbps rate was instigated and now used as a minimum level...
