Having more competition with additional links out of / into NZ wouldn't help in this instance as the fault is on the Chorus network from the local exchange to the handover point for my ISP.  It affect all traffic to all ISP's...

pR0n aside the interwebz is vastly more "rich" than 2007 when the 32kbps rate was instigated and now used as a minimum level...

Tim

Interwebz aside, The Chorus network hasnt grown and customer base for copper is declining since recent. No need to change.

Bobdn: If New Zealand had a second international cable, rather than just the Sothern Cross Cable, Outram would have UFB.  We need more international bandwidth in our country.

You're joking, right?

Yes, just joking.  Back to Metro 2033 on my Playstation 4 and then some Mad Men later on on Lightbox.  And then some more Geekzone early evening.  I lead a simple life.

Through my ISP (Slingshot) I did do a congestion complaint around the 24th March and Chorus did charge a NFF (because they are supplying above 32kbps) which Slingshot were very gracious to not pass onto me.  I would be reluctant to suggest to families here to log the same complaints as it would be unfair on them if their chosen ISP did not absorb the same fee.

I am sure Chorus are well aware of their congestion issues on their network and suggesting otherwise would only show how inept they are at looking after their customers and hiding behind a 2007 requirement based on dial-up usage of the Internet.  We are in 2014 and Chorus really need to step up and not suggest that they are going to let their EUBA network succumb to the same congestion the BUBA network has as they are with their current ComCom filings.

Tim
(off to start the fire...)

You mean the current ComCom filings that show Chorus planning to double UBA throughput from it's current 75kbps dimensioning (which in itself is over double what Chorus are required to offer) if the ComCom let them proceed with their plans?

As I've said many times on here, blaming Chorus for meeting MBIE and ComCom regulated product requirements is IMHO totally unfair. MBIE and the ComCom should be defining regulated offerings that meet the requirements of today's internet. The fact they aren't just shows how totally inept both organisations are.

If you didn't get everyone to log a complaint, the solitary complaint logged by you is going to make sure things (if anything) is done very slowly. As far as Chorus knows (going by how you tell it) you are the sole person in Outram having any problems. Companies don't always know they're having problems unless they get told.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Even Mosgiel would be a huge step up, internet-wise, and it's not that far from Outram.

Further away from my daughters friends than I want at the moment, once the Family Home is sold and I have settlement with the X then we'll see what happens... no rush, Outram is a great place just a pity the interwebz is rubbish...

It could be worse, you could live in Momona and it would be even slower. Mosgiel isn't that far, really, and you could get fibre.
