I have seen in the news lately about the slow uptake of UFB and wonder how many people who are in the same boat as me who can get UFB but are stuck trying to get it installed. UFB is available on my street and has been for some time. I have my ADSL with Telecom and have been happy with it so waited till they offered a UFB product so I could stay with them but my experience has been a frustrating one.
Day -4) 27 March Telecom announce UFB YAY).

Day 0) 31 March Sign up online, get reference number but don't write it down as I assume they will email me. email didn't turn up.
Day 14) 14 April: Haven't heard anything so give Telecom a call. They have lost my registration so have to go through registration again.
Day 16) 16 April: Receive my modem. That was quick
Day 22) 22 April: Letter arrives saying they need consent as we have a shared driveway. Neighbour sharing driveway is also signing up with telecom UFB so shouldn't take long. Send in my consent.
Day 22-62) I received a few emails from Telecom saying they are still waiting on consent. Phoned Telecom with no joy. Phoned Chorus and they said due to privacy rules they cant say which consent they are waiting on.
Day 62) 1 June: All of a sudden they decide they have consent. Now Chorus needs to scope & design the work needed. I am not sure why they need to design anything it doesn't sound like their standard practice. Our driveway has a metre wide garden on both sides so they don't even need to go under the driveway if they don't want to.

Day 86) Today. Still no install date.

DJC: As I said before. They have got consent as of 1st June. I am still unsure what this design process is that they are now in.

I Dont install in Auckland but here is the shorterned version of what happens

Your Provider makes a request of Chorus to connect

Chorus check if MDU/ROW

No - RSP informed - Send to install contractor to be connected - Site visited by installer and connected normaly within 4 days

YES - RSP informed "Concent Required" - Chorus send concent requests to reg property owners

- Concents come back - yes/no

YES - RSP informed "Design Required" - Chorus then request a design solution from the local design contractor

- Chorus then approve or reject design / costing solution

Approved - RSP informed "Build Required"

- Chorus then request a solution build from Local network build contractor > Sub contractor

- build work programmed in with existing work load

- ( Site access, Property owners buy in of solution, council permits , other network operators plans/maping of services etc )

- Network build

- records updated (If changed from original designed connection points - fibre/tube changes etc)

- RSP informed "Build Completed - Install to procced"

Chorus release job to install contractor - Site visited by installer and connected normaly within 4 days

----

Your Job appears, from the info you have provided, to be in the design stage
