Hi Guys & Gals,

We have unbundled our first trial customer and thought we would update you on how our trial is going, and most importantly what you can look forward to...

ULL Speed Test

We have done a few speed tests with the fastest being 18mb/s with 5 ms latency!

The next exchange we will be unbundling is the Glenfield exchange with the Mount Albert, Ellerslie, and Browns Bay exchanges soon to follow!

Hello Matt... Welcome to Geekzone. Perhaps if you are with Orcon and posting in an official capacity it would be good to have an introduction?

How rude of me not to introduce myself Tongue out

My name is Matthew Sliedrecht, I like long walks on the beach and candle light dinners... Just joking.

I have been working in the Marketing Department of NZ's Best ISP Orcon for the last 9 months.

If you are thinking who is this mysterious, yet charming man you can see my profile under the staff section of the Orcon Website.

Welcome, and Mauricio, perhaps a dedicated Orcon forum too? Similar to TCL or XNet.

A dedicated forum is something for later - Orcon needs to request it, and have someone to keep an eye on things...

Hi Matthew welcome

Sort of a kick in the rear for existing Orcon customers on a max plan getting 1992 kbps highest about 1985 kbps  and this is in Auckland.

As far as I'm aware, *currently* Telecom are in control of which exchanges other competitors can install their gear into & they have consulted with other industry players about this, but Telecom still control the speed of the LLU roll out.

Last I heard, Telecom had a slow implementation of 40 exchanges/cabinets (of their total 650) by the 2009, let's hope that this is speed up significantly.

How can this be Orcon's problem though, when they are merely reselling a Telecom product, using Telecom DSLAMS/Lines?

Hi matthew! Orcon is a great company!! Now it is probably going to be the first company to launch naked DSL too.. And as the things are getting hotter ...You should apply  for special Orcon forum with Geek Zone too.. anyways coming to the point .... i have a small question in my mind that what will happen to the customers who have joined the free homeline offer on contracts? do they have any choice for moving to the naked dsl with these wonderful speeds? thanks

The wonderful speeds are a result of LLU & Orcon installing their own equipment into the Ponsonby Exchange in this case, using ADSL2+ technology.

It's important to remember that Naked DSL is entirely different to LLU as Naked DSL is deployed using current technology, DSL1 if you will, whereas LLU so far is utilising ADSL2+ plus ?? GigE backhaul.

Great, so how about real world download performance, are you able to post some actual download speeds, whilst downloading a file? Posting Speedtests is only so good, posting actual real world performance is far more valuable in my opinion.

Sorry but why and to where? Orcon have no direct control over aspects of the Internet and your performance to various portions of it in general past their National and International transit suppliers. You are moving past testing Orcon's LLU implementation and on to something else entirely.

Also this is all well and good Matt, hopefully these results continue when you start rolling out customers past your commercial trails and actually have contention on the network.

I guess TCL can no longer claim NZ's fastest home broadband service! Time to pull down those bus stop ad's and redo the GFX on the TCL bus in Wellington! :-)
