Hello everyone,

I'm looking at buying a property that is just outside Palmerston North city limits.

The property itself is almost across directly across the road from a school, which has had fibre delivered to it. Chorus has done pamphlet drops all the way up that side of the street.

I've done some investigation and it appears that the property I'm buying is coming back negative for UFB.

Does anyone know if its possible to get fibre run across the street to my property? Whom would I contact about this? Most ISP's I've dealt with have submit a prequalification through wireline (or whatever system UFB is provisioned in these days) and has come back negative for UFB and are not willing to take things any further.

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

You more than likely can, at significant cost to yourself, and probably not on a UFB plan.

That seems mental. When I had my UFB installed it was on the other side of the street, we're still on power poles here so they just went up and over.

How much of a cost would we be talking about? Who would be able to perform this work - would I need to speak to Chorus directly?

But in your case the design area included your side of the street being feed from the other side

You are not a wholesale serive provider so you don't deal with Chorus, Only retail servier providers do

The UFB install areas have defined design limits and any extra capaciity withing those areas is reserved for infill houseing

98% of Schools were/are delivered fibre based UFB via specialy constructed 1 off connections that were installed under a seperate contract between Crown Fibre and Chorus (in this case) and have nothing to do with the general roll out of UFB in the rest of the community.

If you cant get UFB now - have you entered the address on the Chorus roll out website? and seen when it is planned to be done? - If the area is within the current Urban area of greater Palmerston North then it will be being done under the current project ( exceptions are Summerhill/ Fitzherbert areas on the other side of the Manuwatu River which are not)
