Hi all,

I am trying to setup my DSL-2900AL over Orcon UFB and it all works okay except for a couple of issues:

1 - I have to go into my LAN/Wifi connections and set the DNS explicitly to that of the router...is that the only way? I thought it would all be automatic

2 - My phone line is not working when I plug it straight into the DSL router

I really don't want to use the Orcon one. Any help would be appreciated!

Great problem one fixed, had to disable DNS relay on my router :)

Still can't get my land line to work

If you want their phone service you have to use their router.

Your router does not have any voice ports to plug a phone into. Even if it did Orcon's voice service is a fully managed one so you can't use 3rd party hardware. If you want a phone with a guaranteed service you should be using their supplied router.

If you reconfigure your Orcon router to connect behind your new router you *may* find it *might* work. There are no guarantees of this. There are plenty of threads on here discussing this.

That's just no good! :( So does vodafone UFB land line work with other routers?

I couldn't find any other threads detailing what I was asking, can you be so kind to post a link of those threads?

Huh? I don't see what either have to do with each other and how this is in any way a monopoly.

You signed up for a fully managed end to end voice solution that requires their CPE to work. If you don't like that solution there are plenty of other providers you can choose from.

All good. Thanks for your help! I'll try and place their CPE behind the router I do actually want to use and see if that works.

No.

There is no provider that offer voice via managed CPE that lets you use your own router. If they did you'd have no way to guarantee delivery of a managed voice solution and to ensure the quality.

As I mentioned you may be able use their router behind your own router for voice, and there are a large number of threads on this very topic here on Geekzone.

There is another identical thread wanting to do this on Vodafone here from last night and some help with doing it on Vodafone here. Setup for Orcon if it would work would be pretty much the same.

what? Working perfectly well here with pap2t + mikrotik

I suspect extracting the SIP credentials and then manually configuring 3rd party SIP hardware is going to be beyond the OP.

If the instructions are helpful then no, nothing is beyond anyone (so lets not assume here), I am happy to get all the help I can get.

The links aren't very helpful as the modems are starkly different. I have disabled vlan on the WAN interfaces on the Orcon router but no luck. So here is what I have done on the Orcon router:

1 - Disable Wifi (obviously because I want to use the Dlink one)

2 - Go to the WAN interface and remove the wan interface which had the VLAN tagging on

3 - Made sure I leave the ADSL and VDSL ones intact

4 - Connect the WAN port on my Orcon one to an ethernet port on my dlink one

Now here is where it gets interesting, even after step 4, the LAN light on my DLink one for the port I use to connect to the Orcon router doesn't light up. Seems like there is no WAN connection between Dlink and Orcon router. And I am quite lost in the WAN interface setup in the Orcon router (Netcomm), it's very cryptic and not user friendly, thus I am here on this forum.
