My sister is moving to a new subdivision tomorrow.

She is moving to a house that pre-dates the subdivision but it's address has changed from being on the original road to having a different street number on a newly formed road.

Her ISP says there is no fibre or copper at the new address. I had a look yesterday and it look like the old copper has gone but there is a new Chorus labeled fibre conduit coming out of the ground right against the house.

We checked with the developer and he said that "Chorus have completed the job just not signed it off yet".

Any idea how long these things normally take?

I'll need to sort out some mobile broadband or something in the mean time. Sadly on both Voda and Spark mobile maps it falls into a gap in 4G.

@chorusnz may be able to help here, you will need to work with your isp to get full details on whats going on though.

Front line support arent always too useful for the complex situation your in.

Hassall St, Rangiora, which has been extended from what currently shows on Google maps as part of the new subdivision. Chorus map shows up to No. 22 but the number now go higher.

Why didn't the developer go with Enable?

You might find there will be limited ISPs that will offer fibre over Chorus in Rangiora.

If it is Chorus, I understand 2degrees have a handover.

None of the maps anywhere seem to be updated.

The portal is showing addresses up to 32 but not with any services.

Lower numbers are just showing ADSL service.

Nothing can be ordered until it is signed off.

Once that is done the ISP should be able to put a manual order in.

What happens if you order a copper service for the old address?

Has the copper actually been pulled out of the ground?

Are there jack points in the house. If so Plug a phone in and if there is any sort of beeping, give this a try.

Call ISP give old address of the house and ask for ADSL/VDSL connection. If they advise of a ready for service date and on that date

Services are working then a week later tell them the correct address

If services are not working the ISP will log fault with Chorus. Chorus will send a Tech out. Tech should get the connection going as well as advising Chorus the correct address, Chorus will create the address in there system and advise the ISP to reflect the address change.

**** This would only work if there is a jackpoint in the house with some sort of beeping tone when you plug a phone in. This means the old copper is still intact**************

Shes moved in now. The copper has definitely gone. The developer got an ETA from Chorus and it seem like its going to be about two weeks before an ISP can order anything.

We are having water issues at the moment so broadband is down the list for a while. The kids will have to experience the great outdoors instead for a while.

Ran into this in Hamilton a few years ago, only a single ISP Lightwire had a Chorus NGA handover for the longest time, then Snap got one, then other providers picked them up and developers stopped picking Chorus also, which helped. 2degrees is probably your best bet.

Unfortunate they moved her in before telco/functional water was in place :(

There are a lot of private subdivisions now not going with Chorus. I read yesterday that Clutha have a council funded fibre deployment in a new greenfields subdivision that's only going to be a single provider.

Clearly none of these people care to understand the issues that will ultimately occur as a result of this. There was plenty of rage in the BoF days when WxC was the only provider (which was for very different reasons - no other RSP's wanted to deploy fibre services at that time despite being able to).

If somebody overbuilds services that's fine, but I see council funding a private infrastruture build as a slippery slope. What's next? Privatised power & water?

I know similar issues with power, water and internet already exist in some apartment buildings but these decisions are not made by a council. They're private developers and body corps.
