If you are with hosting direct can you try this website www.filepost.org (with no proxy)

Does it bring up a login page or just Error 403?

Thanks in advance for your help :-)

I don't think anyone on Geekzone would be silly enough to be with HD

(edit) changed stupid to silly to sound more PC

Are they that bad? My ISP has changed it's wholesaler to Hosting Direct. Speed is pretty awesome. Just missing a website now.

I've been with HD for over 2 years now and have not had a problem with them.  Use them for webhosting a basic php website.  I like their prices.

I don't use them for Broadband services or anything.  Just domain hosting.

Search Geekzone

there plenty enough stuff on geekzone that makes me wonder why anyone would be silly enough to go with vodafone....

from what i recall, the HD "incident" was due to some complaining and name calling in a thread... not because they provided a bad service.

I can access the website fine. Loads up a login page.

ps - @others - Let me know when another ISP can give me 100GB for $68. No setup fees or contract and got 1 month for free. No issue with soeeds either. Youtube has been flakey since last couple of days but will monitor it. Online portal looks like pretty average though. For some reason they have billed me twice for this month? Did raise an ticket. Let's see.

My favourite HD nugget is the following:

From their Why Choose Us? Page (http://www.hd.net.nz/why-choose-us)

"We don't sell our services on gimmicks, trendy offerings or misleading information."

Then look at their network page: http://www.hd.net.nz/network

The Juniper MX960's aren't cheap - http://www.juniper.net/us/en/products-services/routing/mx-series/mx960/ Now I don't know 100% for sure, but I'll eat a hat if those are Hosting Direct's MX960's and not Orcon's. Why would a hosting company need a 2.6 Tbps router? Sorry, two 2.6 Tbps routers! :)

I realise I'm being a nit-picker, but to claim your upstreams network equipment as your own seems to me to violate their "Why choose us" statement. Actually maybe I should go back and redraw my home ADSL connection diagram to include TelstraClear's routers. That'll look cool...

To answer the question though: I can load that website fine from a number of different source addresses.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

HD certainly offer compelling pricing but they have a somewhat chequered history.

In the past their "advertising" has come across as borderline astroturfing, there are some odd stories about refunds not being honoured and so on.

They have had a disruptive effect on domain name pricing and hosting pricing in NZ (in a good way) forcing a lot of incumbents to drop their (overpriced) fees.

It's clearly a small company run by quite young guys (early 20's).  I think it's fair to say they do seem to be taking a more professional approach in the last year or so.

Plenty of information in this GPForums thread about their ADSL plans.
http://www.gpforums.co.nz/thread/413529/?s=

I would probably give their unmetered adsl service a go in a flat situation, very little risk (no setup fee or early termination).

I would probably use their hosting and domain name service for personal non mission critical sites

I wouldn't use them as the name service or host for mission critical business stuff yet at this stage until they have proved themselves a bit more.

My 2cents ^

how about you just tell me exactly what it is in that thread that you are referring to rather than just posting a link.  I'm pretty sure him being banned had nothing to do with "service" or "quality of service" and mostly to do with "marketing" and calling MF a dictator..

i know you contribute a lot to the forums at times, but at other times you seem like a simple troll... and many others get banned for that.

I'd like to ask people to stay on topic. The discussion is not about why chose one ISP or another, but if you can access some domain.

From this point, you get out of topic here it's a two weeks ban.

Fair enough.. to the OP

Telstraclear (Biz Fibre): Fine
Vodafone Mobile: 403 forbidden
ICONZ (Colo): Fine

If you want someone on HD's ADSL service to test it, best try asking in the gpforums thread I mentioned earlier.

I think part of the problem with the loading of the website is that they seem to have lots of different URLs, where some work and some don't.
