PB Tech/Mi Store have the Xiaomi 34” down to $599 at the moment, which is the screen I bought based on recommendations here. Not big on features if that matters (eg no USB), but probably can’t beat it for value.

Agree with this recommendation, its hard to beat for the price. Otherwise something like the Dell S3422DWG is probably the next step up, has a few more gaming features etc. $885 at the moment at PBTech, and from memory comes down to the $700's when on sale at Dell. There's probably something similarly priced to the Dell that is more productivity orientated but I'm not familiar enough with the options to make a recommendation.

Thanks. There are so many options out there. With this information, I was able to check this message thread for mentions of this and have ordered it for pickup today.

Hopefully, I can sell my old monitors on Trademe with $1 reserve.

I got a brand-new standing desk that is awesome! It is quite strong (up to 150Kg), has a wireless charger and easy to assambly.

mailmarshall: Hi I am thinking of getting a 27”-34” ultra widescreen monitor to connect my work HP elitebook laptop. Looking for something that is slim and has inbuilt USB hub. Any recomendations?

You didn't say what your budget was. My wife uses a 34" Dell Ultrasharp ultrawide in her WFH setup which supports both USB-C and normal USB upstream with 4 port USB hub downstream, but it costs $1700 so not sure I would recommend it. You can get $800 34" ultrawides but they usually have VA panels while the more expensive ones have IPS panels. Personally I would not buy a VA panel for WFH use.

What's your budget, how many ports do you need on the inbuilt USB hub, and will you connect over USB-C?

Sorry got taken out by the Covid lurgy only just getting better now.

In terms of ports not fussed but must have a hub. Definitely want to use USB-C.
Budget upto $1200

I'll be upgrading my 1800 motorised sit-stand desk soon as the new one arrives, if anyone in Wellington is interested let me know and we can keep in touch.  Should have the new one mid-may.  You can see the desk in my earlier photos in this thread.

My new desk has arrived and i'll be swapping over tonight/tomorrow.  If anyone in Wellington wants a great solid 1800 motorised standing desk let me know.  It'll be broken down into a box of legs and the table top for pickup.

What surge protectors/power boards is everyone using for their work from home setup? I thought I'd have enough with just the 4 sockets in my office but nope I need more and I might as well get a surge protector while I'm at it.

Bonus points, any way to add on cable management cubbies onto a desk? I've got a glass top desk with a wooden draw on the side so certainly could do some drilling.

Hi Maxine, honestly if you really think you need a surge protector, then you better off investing in a ups for both your network gear and workstation. A surge protector in its own is pretty lame and in reality is typically too under grunted to protect against serious voltage spikes that typically occur on the network.

A ups will include surge protection on it's output, and typically it's input as well.

Fair point. I just don't have any gear worth saving sans work equipment, plus that means getting two UPSes if I wanted to handle my ONT + CPE because it's not in the same room as my office.

On a similar note are there any worthwhile surge protectors for vdsl lines?

Does a master filter have any effect on copper surges? I've lost a few modems over the years sometimes associated with lightning in the area. Surprising, as the lines are underground for km..

Hi there are filters about, but I have often used ethernet ones, simply because I have them to hand.

What make and model is your new desk @gehenna. I am wanting something where I then end up in a U configuration desk setup for a sqaure office room.

Do whatever you want to do man.
