I was transferring to a new case and once transferred connected it all up and nada.  No lights, beeps or attempts for the fans to spin.

How would I go about determining if it's the CPU or the motherboard?  Would it be worth taking to a repair shop?  Could they diagnose it?  I don't mind replacing one of the other if I've busted it, but wouldn't mind knowing for sure which one it is.

Power supply ok ?? , right cables connected up for the power on button to the mother board.

No action on the monther board at all as in fans moving when power button is hit sounds more like power issue.

guessing that it used to work
seems more likely that the connection from the psu is not making connection or the power switch it not connected ....

Yeah right before I pulled it out I shut it down.

So should it work if I don't connect the front panel?  Ie just giving it the PSU power etc?  I have a very similar make and chipset board that I can run without connecting the front switches and that works...I'm currently thinking about trying to shoehorn the other board (fm1) and hope I can get the busted one (fm2) hard drive to use it.

Just downloading the chip set drivers to try and load those.  As it hangs on graphics at the moment.  The busted system is gigabyte fm2 a10 APU...the other working one is gigabyte fm1 a6 or 8 APU

I did try it on a box with same result.  It s a pity these motherboards have no lights on them or anything to tell if they're getting power.

I plug in the 24 (I think) motherboard header and the 8 pin atx power plug and ope it goes....and get nothing.

How are you trying to tell it to power on if the switches aren't connected?

If the other machine just powers on, that's a bios setting.

Hmm yeah ok, the other one just started.  Ok I was having issues possibly with the switch and wonder if it's busted.  I think I have another one I can try or put it back in it's original case.

rather than using the switch in the case remove the connection to the mobo and use something small and conductive to short the pins

Oh well that was successful. Put a screw between the pin and the cpu fan spun up. Awesome. So I can look at putting it back together tomorrow.

I had a faulty power button on a case once, took a while to diagnose. Shorting the pins did it. Pain in the butt. Sounds like you have the same issue.

Jase2985: could just plug the reset button in temporarily?

I thought I'd tried that. Maybe they're both fried. They front an old case in a custom mount. And I hot glued them. Maybe I killed them.
