Hi

I am trying to get this blinkin GPS going on my N95. When I go to view 'sattelite info' it shows 2 bars. One with 4 (top bar) written and the other with 17.

I have downloaded the NZ map to my phone using Maploader. I have tried to search for 1 The Terrace in Wellington using the search but it says not found?? Also I cant even get my current position.

I realise that I need 3 satellites to get GPS - which I think I have with 4 and 17??

Before anyone says that you need to be outside, with the 'slider' open I have done all these.

Can anyone help ?

The first time you use the GPS it can take a long time to lock on, maybe 15 minutes. Just leave it pointing north and go have a cup of coffee. Once it has aquired sattelites and "learnt" where it is located it will lock on a lot quicker in future. The numbers you are seeing are just the sat numbers I think, you should be able to see at least 4 sats at any time.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Crickey upto 15minutes to lockon initially. Thats a long time!!

At the moment when I go to Maps the crosshair thing is somewhere in Europe. I presume this is because it hasn't had the first lockon.

Does the lockon occur automatically when i choose Maps from the phone menu??

Also one last thing, the GPS doesn't find any satelites indoors and in other places such as by hills. Do you have these problems also?

You will not pick up signals indoors. To get your initial lock you need to be outside, have the slide open and have your phone facing a clear view of the northern sky with no buildings or trees in the way. If you leave it, finally it will get a lock. In future this will happen within a few minutes but if you move inside you will lose lock.
When in the car, I put the phone on the dash for a few minutes until I have a lock then I can drive around with the phone sitting on the passenger seat with no lose of signal.
Just be patient in getting that first lock, when it has happened the map will move and zoom in to your current location.

Hey I have heard that there are new versions/types of the map software (on actual phone). Have you seen these??

The guy at www.myn95.com has some reviews. Seems to be an Aussie guy...

Yippee it works.

Left the GP unattended for 10min and it found the satellite.

Pity it doesn't work indoors but it certainly had my position correct :)

Now for that firmware upgrade that allows for EGPS :)...........
