It appears from this last post that Zire 72 can connect to the internet via a PC using bluetooth. Your link leads to hotsyncing with Zire 72, not internet connection. I have been able to hotsync but not connect to the internet. It would be great if somebody can help me.

I just got a Zire 72 and got a Belkin F8T001 ver 2 bluetooth adapter. I am trying to connect to the internet using my PC. My PC is part of a LAN with a router. The router has DHCP and my PC is set to get a IP address automatically.

I have 2 bluetooth icons in my system tray. One is dark blue with a red symbol in it. It says Bluetooth Device not found. The second icon is light blue with 2 white arrowheads in it. When I select 'show bluetooth devices', it shows the PDA. When I click 'Join a Personal Area Network', a window opens which again says that no device is found.

What am I doing wrong or is it not supposed to work?

Thanks

Dinesh, are you running Windows XP SP2 and using its Bluetooth software? This is why you have two icons...

Second, Internet sharing is only possible with Bluetooth adapters running the Widcomm software. Please confirm this is the case.

If this is the case you must first revert back to the Bluetooth original software, then proceed with the ICS configuration as explained in other guides we have. The Zire 72 Wizard will then be able to find the appropriate service.

You may have a problem with your network. ICS requires a special address on its configuration (192.168.0.1). If this address is already taken on your network, then the setup will not work. You'll have to change your network to another range (for example 192.168.1.0).

Also make sure any personal firewall software you have is not blocking communications. Very important to change Zone Alarm to Medium, or create a rule on Norton to allow the internal traffic.

Could you not just set up a virtual serial port over BLuetooth, and then pipe it through to a PPP server, such as mocha???
Worked for me back when last used a windows PC.

Yep. It should work but the other option is free, while MochaPPP costs ($$$).

Freitasm,

I have Windows XP SP2. I did not actively start its Bluetooth. I don't know if it gets installed by defualt. I installed the software which came with the Belkin F8T001, which is Widcomm software. I tried to update the driver by asking windows to look through the CD I had, but it said I had no better drivers there. I, then uninstalled the device from Device Manager and reinstalled the device by using the Belkin software CD and I wind up with the same icons. How can I get rid of the Microsoft driver and just have the Widcomm software?

192.168.0.1 is not on my network. I did turn off the personal firewalls while trying to get this to work.

I thank you for your help.

To switch between the Microsoft and the Widcomm software, please follow the instructions in this thread.
