Just started replaying Ori and the Will of the Wisps.  First time with HDR enabled on my wide gamut monitor. It was a beautiful game before, but wow the colours now.  I'd love to see it on an OLED or monitor with lots of local dimming zones.  Highly recommended if you like the Metroidvania / platforming genre.

My kids absolutely love that game. My daughter has played it through about 5 times, has done a speed run and tried a few times to go through the game on perma death.

Hogwarts Legacy - PlayStation store finally had a discount on the digital version to at least get it under $100, so got it for PS5.

Never read the books, and only a casual viewer of the films; so I'm probably not the target demographic. But it's fairly good. Easy enough that I don't get stuck not knowing what to do, but combat difficult enough (for me) that it often takes several attempts to complete certain parts.

I'd imagine hardcore Harry Potter fans would get a lot more out of it.

I've started playing Dune: Deserts of Kharak after getting it for free a while back on Epic. So far so good. I'm enjoying the balancing act of aggressively going out for resources vs creep and hold. The mobile base/carrier is a nice change from a stationary base as well.

Being a fan of the Dune universe and games i was like oh cool there's a new Dune game out.

Nope its not a new Dune game at all, its Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Completely different series. Not sure if that was intentional, if it was please dont.

That game was pretty good from the first little bit of it I played but the drm was giving me lots of issues with profrmance so I eneded up refunding it after just short of 2 hours (thanks gabe)

I might try it again at somepoint especialy because it seems to be going on sale alot on steam to about $70 which seems pretty reasonable, but I should probaly wait till I have more time.

It's easily worth while on sale. I really enjoyed it, though I didn't finish it as something new and shiny came along.

I really hope nothing else amazing comes out this year.

I started playing Ratchet and Clank on the steamdeck. I'm really quite pleased that Sony is bringing a lot of their games to PC.

I didn't buy a PS5 at launch and I wasn't willing to pay scalper prices so we don't have one. Ratchet and Clank is one of the titles I really wanted to play so it's a good compromise.

I'm spending a lot of time on planes in the next few weeks so it's great it plays on Steam deck.

I’ve been bouncing around the last few weeks travelling backwards and forwards to Europe.

I’ve played Ratchet and Clank and I’m a fair way through Marvels Spoder Man on the steam deck.

It’s a great device for travel with few gotchas. If you don’t have a power socket on the plane it’s a pain. Playing AAA games smashes the battery and an external battery pack is ok without being great. It was fine on Emirates but I’m not sure if I’ll take it to Europe at Christmas time as we’re flying Turkish and won’t have a power socket.

Other than that I’ve really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it for travel.

I'm up to the final act of Spider Man 2, which I'll do today hopefully as I've been away for work most of the week.  Also downloaded Alan Wake 2 last night and I can't wait for this one, I loved the first and the Remedy games inbetween them

I recently played a bit of Cities Skylines II, and apart from the fact that I was only getting about 20-30fps at 1080p on a 6700xt, The game it self seems really fun. But thats not supprising considering I sunk a few to many hours in the first one.

Alan Wake is well worth the rave reviews it's getting.  What a treat.

After 150 hours in starfield, I am parking it for a bit until the DLC or more content is added.

Gave wildard more money and bought Ark ascended this weekend. Some good QoL improvements and even on low the game looks very pretty! I get about 30fps on the steam deck so good enough for SP.

Eventually I will end up buying and playing BG3 - probably when I finish Starfield (if ever). I'm interested to know in what sense you find it hard to play. Too hard, too complicated, not intuitive, ....?

It can be great fun, but it's not very linear in terms of it's difficulty.

Generally, a game will get harder as you progress, but with BG3,  you can be adventuring along, have fun and challenging combat, happen on an area that seems to be progressing the story naturally, and then need to restore from an earlier save and stay away from that area, because all of a sudden you are vastly out numbered by NPC's who are so stupidly OP compared to your level, it's not possible to beat them.  It's not unusual for a single combat occurrence to take 45 minutes to complete.

I think it's the type of game you'd enjoy, no doubt in my mind, I just have found some elements less fun for the above reasons.

I almost certainly will complete it.

I have recently started on BG3 and now I understand where you’re coming from. I have played countless games (including types of RPGs) but never a full-flavour D&D game. I had only a rough idea of what lay behind those games.

Most aspects of the game (except the combat) weren’t too hard to pick up - but the combat had me bamboozled. I understood the turn-based combat mechanic but the detail of how it worked and what was going on - yeah nah.

At first I hated it and was just bumbling around in the combat. If I had bought a physical PS5 disc, I would have called it quits and sold it. However BG3 is only available as a download, so I thought “I paid $105 for this and I’m stuck with it - better get to grips with it and get my money’s worth”.

There’s no in-game tutorial that comes remotely close to explaining the intricacies of the combat. I have now spent much time reading many combat guides on the ‘net and watching YT videos on it. I have a reasonable understanding of the offensive side and weapons etc - but still a bit to go on spells, potions etc. Finding it bloody complicated but I’ll get there in the end.

With my improved but still imperfect knowledge, yesterday I replayed some combat involving killing three goblin chiefs - with success and enjoyed it. TBH I am playing on the easiest ‘story’ mode - but under the circs I don’t feel any shame in that.  I think I’m going to end up really loving the game.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

After more reading-up and playing further, I now feel I understand maybe 80/90% of what’s going on. I’ve played 25 hours but now realise I was playing very simplistically at the beginning  - so I’m going to scrap all that and start again, playing more properly.
