ShinyChrome:

I don't know if someone had already posted about this earlier in the thread, but someone received their Xbox Series S early in Canada and posted that only 364GB is available for games + apps.

It's a bit stink really for a "digital" console, but I guess this is where they were differing from Sony's strategy of two versions of the same console and instead trying to target two different gaming segments; "serious" gamers are going to go for the XSX and "casual"/kids/people looking for an all-in-one streaming media box to the XSS.

I'm guessing they plan to push their 1tb expansion card thing. Which costs like $400 NZD. They have make up the loss they are no doubt taking on the seires-s somehow.

i decided to order one of the seagate expansion cards. I'd rather run all games off either the internal or the card, maximizing the architecture designed. I'll do digital downloads rather than physical disks.

Its a cleaner solution than a USB drive hanging off the back, but that is my preference.

Order a second white controller, which I feel will get dirty over time.

Noel Leeming pickup tomorrow at some point for the accessories.

Has anyone done a comparison between using a SSD USB 3.2 Drive and using the Expansion card for the xbox?

I feel it's a bit of a backward move to have such a small amount of storage and then nickle and dime people for the extras.

This is buried a bit further up in this thread - it looks like a decent SATA or NVMe SSD hooked up by USB3 will load last gen games basically the same speed as the internal SSD does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y-Fy1Q2O2k

Good spot, that is a very good point.

Since they only need to include the assets that the console is capable of rendering, they can strip them right back. And since higher frame rates are only really taxing on runtime resources, it doesn't take away from it's ability to play games where >60fps is more rewarding than higher res assets.

Ars Technica has also posted their review of the X/S as well

Has anyone ordered via Spark All Access? My brother did, initially they sent him an Xbox One X the day after he ordered a Series X on the 22nd of September, which he returned.

He hasn't heard anything from them since, so he messaged Spark today. Their agent said they are still waiting on the units to arrive into NZ, none have been sent out yet.

Mine has already shipped from MightyApe.

Thanks!

He got that email too. He's just messaged their Twitter team, and they're currently sending the Xbox stock out of their warehouse now.

The chat agent must have been misinformed.

This is the response I received from Noel Leeming:

I understand the importance of knowing when to pick up your order . Do not worry, I will be happy to check it for you.
In regard to your concern about the ETA of your order, per checking your Xbox consoles sent to your click and collect store for collection on the 10th of November. Please be informed that store will need to prepare this for click and collect. Estimated pick up ETA of the item is between 13-17 NOV , please be advise as well that we cannot guarantee this ETA , due we need to wait for the supplier stock as well. Once the item has been transferred to the store they will contact you regarding pick up of your order.

Oh well...

It's probably also some reserved space for OS features and updates down the line, you also have features like quick resume so thats a ton of precached game data(tens of GB's). ~100GB unavailable out of the box seems entirely reasonable to me.

Harvey Norman had shipped my console to my local HN store, and it was ear marked for shipment out. Spoke to customer services via WhatsApp, which I thought was a good service to offer.... they had informed me it was at my local store...

Spoke to the local store and they will hold it for me, for click and collect when they can release the hardware tomorrow from 9am.

He said I was lucky, as no more stock of them for HN, until 2021!!!

I can rest easy tonight knowing there is a console with my name on it!

Given my experience of PBTEch I'm expecting them to have not shipped today and instead ship maybe tomorrow for delivery in a few days :(

Anandtech has published their review of the XSX, which features a pretty decent deep-dive into the guts of it. Nice to hear (hurr-hurr) that the fan noise was barely above background noise at idle and only measured roughly 1db higher under load with Gears 5.
