^ While I work on top of a PokeStop and can drift between a few more. At least twice everyday I delete 150-200 items from my 600 item storage and then recollect.

I however have come close to running out of regular Pokeballs during times when I am not at work as I continue to "just press the button" and even the few heavy PokeStop areas I go for walks in, aren't enough to replenish the stocks (though having 150 Ultra Balls means I can still catch, I just have to do it manually.

Does anyone have a link to a good guide? I'm relatively new and don't understand how lots of mechanics work. Thanks!

Probably the best guides would be these videos from Trainer Tips. Some of the info might have gone out of date, but the basics will be the same. I've learned most of what I know from there, and from the Silph Road, which is a great resource.

Event started about an hour early; was walking to work and started seeing some fire types (which are rare here). Unlike the water event where we had no Totodiles at all (it was all Squirtles) I was glad to see both Charmanders and Cyndaquil spawns - as I need quite a few more Cyndaquil candy (and also Houndour)

3x XP on successful captures, and also on first/nice/great/excellent throws
5x XP on egg hatches (Niantic wants that incubator money!)

Wonder if the contents of eggs will change over the next week?

Since the event will see me doing more manual catches, which means more berry use, I am going to have to figure out how to manage my storage issues a bit better

That explains the sudden increase in fire types.  Where's all the Ice ones?

In Dunedin Ice types are not hard to find, so they are still around .. though the Swinub swarm is down a touch.

I've probably mentioned this before, but over the last weeks I've been trying to sort out my Pokemon storage

Primary goal was to reduce the number of Pokemon I was carting around in my storage (I have room for 750, I have 450 ish saved)

Secondary goals are to remove all gender/evolutions shadows in the PokeDex, prepare for Gen 4 evolutions that use Gen 1/2 Pokemon and have a breeding pair of useful Pokemon for when/if breeding becomes a thing.

With the list almost done, I realized that by trying to action the secondary goals, I had managed to completely blow out the primary goal and actually needed to store more Pokemon than I am ...

So, need to refocus my goals ... hrm ...

Loving this fire event! Getting myself a decent number of Cyndaquil and Houndour candies (though I haven't found any good candidates to evolve yet). However my Pinapp/Ultra Ball stock is getting low and I don't seem to be able to restock as quickly from work as I should.

Hatched 3x 10Km on the walk to work this morning (started them yesterday) - with the 5x bonus and running a lucky egg I managed to get 30k XP - currently at 1.8 million into Level 37 .. L38 is do-able with this event, but man what a slog.

How is everyone else doing?

Happy that this event is allowing me to pretty much finish my NZ dex with Piloswine. Swinubs spawns were pretty rare for me since the launch of G2 until now.

A nice bonus was catching my first ever Lapras from a stop – all my previous Lapras were egg hatches – although he quickly went the way of the professor with low CP/Moveset and IVs.

I haven’t got a decent Dewgong to try out in gym battles so am happily nabbing Seels to evolve another potential Dragonite killer. I’ve found Cloysters and Jynx to be mild disappointments so far. The Piloswine might be another option as well so we’ll see.

I’m less enthused on the Fire types, I find it a bit odd that the 2 Fire starter mons Cyndy and Mander are usually rare and very prone to running – yet have no utility really outside of collection. No-one in my area uses them to defend gyms due to lower CP, or attack them due to the defenders being non bug/grass/ice.

Still there’s the XP and stardust at least – provided they don’t run.

Still loving this event!

Started off with 1.5 million XP into Level 37 (1 million to get to Level 38) and on Saturday reached Level 38 and am now 250k into the level (2.75 million to Level 39!)

Spent far too much $$ on lucky eggs and incubators (but the cheaper 100 Pokecoins makes it cheaper).

I see that gyms will close down on the 19th (USA time) - I wonder how long they will stay down, if a new game version will be needed and what the new game play will be like.

Interesting that I was still able to collect my defender’s bonus this morning so Pokemon have not been booted out (yet) by the Gym rework. I noticed some teams making a real push at Gym takeovers yesterday so I was wondering if they were gambling on this. It’s guaranteed income for a while until the new system introduced.

There’s lots of news on the changes now:

Trainers will be able to earn items from their local Gyms, much like existing PokeStops. – This makes perfect sense given that Gyms are landmarks the same as stops.

Gyms are no longer based on Prestige and training, now feature only six slots – Should make it easier to solo gyms assuming they stick with 6 attackers.

Limits on Type - no more Blissey walls. But I also wonder if that means you can't have both Blissey and Snorlax as well since they're both Normal type. No Tyrannitar/Rhydon or Gyarados/Vaporeon  either?

Attackers will battle the Pokemon in the order they were assigned to the Gym, rather than by strength. – This could change player behaviour significantly. No one will want to be Last in-First off and with potentially the best mon types already taken. So there will be more competition among defenders for the best spots and types.

A new motivation system instead of prestige. "Pokémon assigned to defend a Gym lose motivation over time and as they are defeated in battle. As a Pokémon loses motivation, its CP will temporarily decrease, making it easier for opposing teams to defeat. To help keep the Pokémon motivated and in tip-top shape for their next battle, Trainers can treat their team’s Pokémon to some Berries, which restore their motivation – this will be a game changer as a defender will need a supply of the new berries (from stops I presume), have to constantly monitor the M of their defender mon, and feed it if M is dropping. It’s a swing away from the fire and forget system we have currently. On the other hand there has to be some limits on the M top up otherwise I can see attackers getting disillusioned if constant M top ups make it impossible to takeover gyms.

Raid Battles for huge reward (legendary Mons?) – wow looks awesome.

All mons will return to trainers in the next few hours after the Gym closes. So unlikely to be earning while Gyms in construction.

Will trainers be able to camp out at a gym and feed the mons, increasing motivation and thereby actively defending the gym from attack? If so, how long until the bots learn to do this?

These changes make my head hurt, seems quite complicated. I play solo and have no interest in meeting strangers or organising teams for raids.
