If you consider getting Pikachu with a special cap awesome then you'll be happy. That's all they've got planned.

There is an "Anniversary Box" in the store.  Have heard mention that it may contain a Raid pass.  Not heard anything else about it yet.  It's 1200 coins.  Anyone had a look yet?

From what I've read you get:

6 incubators
6 max revive
2 premium raid passes
20 Ultra Balls

For 1200 coins.

Anniversary Box contains

  • 6x Egg incubators
  • 6x Max revives
  • 2x Premium raid passes
  • 20x Ultra balls

Ultra balls and max revives you can get for free from pokestops. Incubators and raid passes will cost 1100 coins if purchased separately. So not a great deal.

Yeah, blonde moment.  Can see the contents without purchasing.  :-D

But yes, not great value for the things you can't get from Pokestops and already have plenty of anyway.

I've never been more disappointed with this game, honestly. I know they're saying that the gym rework and GoFest and all the other events are part of the 1 year anniversary, but another Pikachu in a hat and a non-sale for the actual anniversary day is monumentally underwhelming. Especially when you consider the gym rework was part of their annual upgrade cycle and just implemented a feature the game was supposed to have from the start. Also, I'm fairly sure the anniversary box violates the Fair Trading act, given that two of the items in it are normally free (from Pokestops) and the other two you can get cheaper by buying them separately at full price. I was really expecting double stardust or a 50%-off shop-wide sale. I bought a $20 iTunes card in preparation so I could buy extra coins, expecting to get some decent deals. I would have spent the lot on bag space, raid passes, lures and incubators.

I must admit that the anniversary has been a bit of a disappointment; I've never stuck with a mobile game this long and didn't know really want to expect for an anniversary but .. it should be more than a Pikachu in a hat and an overpriced bundle in the store.

Really hope something else is coming ..

The fact that Pichu in a hat can be hatched has generated some excitement, it seems. I refuse to use my paid incubators on 2km eggs, though! Apparently Clash of Clans had epic rewards for their first birthday. Even Ingress had a double XP week. I've already caught 2 Ashchus, a male and a female, while sitting at my desk. So I assume they'll be fairly easy to find.

Why would hatching a Pikachu with the hat be exciting? My workmate has already found four of them in the wild, so they don't seem to be rare.

I play another game called Munzee and this month they celebrated their 6th birthday (I guess they must be doing something right to have lasted that long!). All month long they've got special munzees popping up all around the world for people to catch, as well as sales and new badges to collect. So I kind of get why people are disappointed with the PoGo anniversary.

It's very much a "nothing" event for something that has unexpectedly lasted a whole year.  Though there does seem to have been more L4 raids in the Wgtn CBD today.  Maybe that's the celebration.

Not Pikachu - Pichu. Apparently a hatted baby is far more desirable than a hatted Pikachu or Raichu.

Oh, right, the babies, I'd forgotten about them (you can tell I'm not a massive Pokemon fan!) Yeah I guess that's kinda exciting, they should be a bit rare and could be valuable when trading starts.

Did phase 1 of my Pokemon Storage clean up yesterday; with the aim of getting rid of low IV Pokemon (those that didn't have legacy movesets) as well as the hoard of unevolved Pokemon I was keeping around "just because" so that my Pokemon Storage wasn't 2/3rds full after getting rid of the trash Pokemon.

Went from around 540 to 419 Pokemon, having gotten about 1/2 way through Gen 2 before my motivation died.
Hopefully I can further refine that down to around 400 Pokemon by the time I complete the list

In the current "meta"; having around 3 fully evolved Pokemon seems to be a good limit for gym battles, while anything can be used as a gym defender (been using my 'useless'  egg hatch Snorlax/Lapras)

My first 2km egg hatch for the event was Ash Pichu. He's a cute little critter. I've had some fun raiding and now have three decent Machamps and Tyranitars, both of which seem to be important all-around attackers. Next job is to get enough candy and stardust to get them all to L30. Beyond that, the diminishing returns make it less economical to do so - they're at 91% strength at L30. I also have some good Golems I want to power up, as I hear they'll be important against the Legendary Birds, when they arrive. I'm still struggling to throw things away. I don't need 8 Misdreavus, but I just can't seem to chuck them out. When Gen3 arrives I'll need to be ruthless, though. I'm at the high 800's storage-wise and that's not sustainable.
