Subsequent to my last post, NL Wairau Road, confirmed that my C&C order was ready for pickup. I have now cancelled it.

This means that for anyone in Auckland following this thread and looking for a PS5 Disc Drive, NL Wairau Road should now have at least one in stock after my cancellation. Might be one of the few currently left in the country.

Cancelled my PS5 Pro order as I can't find a disc drive anywhere (South Island) and the idea of buying a PS5 slim disc edition just to get one feels mad.

I'm going to chance my arm that perhaps over xmas the price drops and stock of the drive is less constrained. My PS5 is working fine right now.

Interestingly, my JBHiFi collection pre-order is now showing ready for collection tomorrow - wonder if that is an error in the system or whether they will let me pick it up a day early?

I have seen a fair few posts on Reddit etc with people getting theirs already.

Picked up the Pro today, installed the Disc Drive purchased last week and got everything set up.

Then re-set the outgoing PS5 sold yesterday here on GZ and took it to the Post Shop to send to the new owner in Christchurch.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Got back from the gym this morning to find my other half had bought a Pro for me which was a heck of a surprise. Only had time to set it up and install Horizon Zero Dawn, had a quick play and it does look rather beautiful, sharpness is particularly noticeable (playing on 65" OLED from 2-3m so ymmv).

Only mild complaint so far is that the packaging feels pretty budget for a $1400 console and the plastic feet (if you use the console horizontally) are hilariously cheap.

I've preordered a disc drive from JB with an ETA of December, hoping somewhere else might get stock in the meantime.

You’re a Very Lucky Guy. Maybe didn’t really need to, but I felt I had to pick my moment to raise it with my Comptroller General to get capex approval for the Pro. I consider myself fortunate too - but take nothing for granted.

Their website did have some stock earlier this week, but went Out of Stock pretty quickly, surprised their Trademe account still has them as know of at least 2 people whose website orders got cancelled due to lack of stock.

That MA TM listing is now showing as ‘withdrawn by seller’.

Then there’s eight scalpers selling them at Buy Now prices ranging from $260 to $320. The normal price is $179.

There’s also a few listed without Buy Now prices.

Edit: Five mins later, the MA listing has completely disappeared.

Yeah, there were 8 left when I bought one but seems they're gone/withdrawn. I'm guessing at least some are those relisted by scalpers as at least a couple say they are from MightyApe :(

I’m a very casual gamer with original PS5 and current TV is 65” OLED without VRR, and wondering if it’s worth it. My problem is that, even though I don’t game a lot, FOMO often convinces me to upgrade when I may not really need to. So hearing from someone who’s upgraded would be helpful.

Can I ask what you got for your original PS5 in the end?

Does anyone realistically think there might be some upcoming Black Friday deals to be had on such a new device (it appears to not be the smash hit the original PS5 was, as there’s plenty of in-store stock)?
