The only benefit that the "new rules" around lucky Pokemon bring my situation is that they will at least be 80%IV .. otherwise it's going to just be a continuation of what it is now - trading recently caught crap that I was going to delete anyway with someone to see if RNG works in our favour.

Stardust event is pretty good - over 3 days I've gathered 500k in stardust, even with some trades .. so I should hopefully be able to hit my 8 million target by the end of the event.

Agreed - I don't know anyone who has fewer than 10 luckies so I'll just continue trading with my sister and my son to re-roll good Pokemon with bad IV.

So the way I see it, I have to find someone that wants to trade one of their rubbish pokemon for one of my rubbish pokemon in the hope that we'll end up with a better one. I usually don't tend to keep rubbish pokemon, I transfer them for the candy. It might be worthwhile for rare stuff, but then I'd have to find someone that has the same rare stuff as me because I won't want to trade my rare stuff for something common!

That's the conundrum :) It might be advantageous for people with bad IV legacy moveset things like double rock Omastar or Shadow Claw Gengar. I held onto a 59% SC Gengar so hypothetically I could trade with you for your bad IV one that you caught in August 2016 and we'd both end up with a very useful Pokemon that would be cheap to power up (which Gengar needs because it's squishy). But it's a very niche situation. I've pretty much ditched all of my old Pokemon and the ones that I kept are because they're really good and I don't want to trade them away.

So, how was the Moltres day for everyone?
I suspect most of us had an issue with the first raid of the day that was unable to be beaten - won the raid, but the boss didn't faint and we had to watch the countdown clock expire .. then the game froze, and wouldn't let you log in etc etc. As a result of those issues, we only managed 5 raids in the first hour, but managed to do 22 in total.

Only 1 shiny for my collection, along with a bunch of 93% Moltres - all were weather boosted as well
One guy in my car got a perfect, non shiny

Afterwards did a few trades and managed to get a 98 Lucky Alolan Vulpix as a trade (as well as a few other random luckies ..)

Still trying to deal with the after effect of the bag storage issues from doing all those raids - ended up with 1600 items from a 1400 item bag space. Deleted all the spare revives and potions, but it feels wrong to delete the Golden Razz's - but I feel I am going to use them like normal berries soon as I know I need ~150 regular Pokeballs in order to have the GoPlus working after work.

Looks like I am going to be short of my 8 million stardust target .. I've done 1 million over the event, but took Sunday off from playing

We had a great time on Moltres Day. My son managed to get to L40 with his Celebi encounter, then we (me, him, my sister and two friends) squished into my wee car and headed off to the first gym on our pre-planned route. We had the same issues on the first raid. A few of us managed to get logged in again and were given the Moltres encounter, but a couple of people lost their passes. Made the 2nd gym at 3:25 pm and it was pretty smooth from then on, bar my son getting kicked from the lobby on the penultimate raid of the day. He got three shiny Moltres (to make up for his barren Zapdos day) and a random shiny Aron sitting beneath one of the gyms. I got two shiny Moltres, both weather boosted. One of our group got a 100% and a shiny. We managed 25 raids (the most ever) despite the problems. If next weekend is Mewtwo (as some are speculating) then I think we can manage 30 if there are no network issues and we rush a bit more. We made sure everyone had caught before jumping into new lobbies and I caught most of mine before I started driving to the next raid, so we could gain a good 20 minutes by me handing my phone to someone else to catch while I drive.

My son is now 578 items over his bag limit. I nearly ran out of balls on Sunday griding for stardust and have been using my excessive amount of golden razz to ensure first-throw catches so as not to waste any balls. I also spent a couple of hours yesterday morning clearing out my inventory. Got to more than 100 free slots with about 100 more marked for trade. It was quite cathartic, and I found some 2016 stuff I can trade away if I need to increase chances of a lucky trade (like the shiny Kyogre my sister is trading me for a shiny Articuno - we'll do it in two trades and include very old Pokemon).

So, two new shinies for the event, along with 15 minute raid eggs and 90 minute raid battles ..

I was hoping for new shinies - quite surprised that they released Geodude as I thought that might get a community day - although I guess there's nothing stopping them from doing one in the future; Pikachu was already shiny before CD. I'm very stoked about the longer raid times. Especially since the birds can be short-manned. My sister, son and I can probably manage them ourselves, since we have four L40 accounts between us. I have to say it's good fun seeing all the retro spawns. And they've been quite good, too. Caught a Porygon, Tangela and two Chansey on the way to school this morning. I have my first batch of 7km eggs ready to go into incubators. I just need Mime and Tauros to complete my Kanto dex. It seems as if people are averaging one or two regionals per batch of nine eggs.

Is it just me or are the Kanto Pokemon that have become shinies, gotten harder to catch?

I used to have no issues with Growlithe and Geodude, but now even the very low CP ones are running after I check them and then use the GoPlus to catch them ..

To be honest I haven't noticed a difference. I caught a shiny Grimer last night, to my surprise. Haven't had much luck with the others.

My son, my sister and I went raiding on the weekend to try to catch him his missing shiny Zapdos. He got a shiny Articuno. My sister needed shiny Articuno. She got shiny Zapdos. They can trade, but he really wanted to catch his own.

I've TMd the majority of my 19 Mewtwo to Shadow Ball (RIP 36 charged TMs). I kept a couple of Hyper Beams and a couple with Psychic, but the rest got swapped. I'll catch plenty over the next five weeks and then choose which ones to power up with Focus Blast and whatever other move might come along - some people are speculating Future Sight or Psyshock, or even Foul Play or Solar Beam. Any new moves will have to be already existing in the game because it's too late to add client-side assets for anything brand new.

I'll be interested to see if the EX system has changed much beyond the changes already announced (new boss, share passes and EX gyms being labelled). I did wonder if they might adjust gym eligibility so that each L13 or at least L12 cell had at least one, to help those communities that never got properly mapped in OSM, or just didn't have any gyms in parks to start with. The Japanese site says Deoxys will be available from the 21st so I guess we'll find out pretty soon.

I managed to get myself a shiny Grimer on Tuesday and a shiny Geodude last night (Thursday) .. still looking for Growlithe who will disappear from being a Pokemon that shows up around here except for events.

I did a few TMs as well this morning while I could - converted my 96 and 98% to have SB (which I will keep along with my maxed 93% that already had SB). Converted a few more to SB as "trade bait" down the line. After the information that the raid Mewtwo was not shiny (expected since they announce that information now) and that he was harder to catch and had random new moves .. I do not think I will be bothered to much about trying to do too many (if any) Mewtwo raids ..

Had a fun weekend with Community Day and Mewtwo raids. The Chikorita spawn rates in Takapuna were insane. We covered a lot less ground than usual purely because there was about twice the number of Pokemon to shiny-check. I caught ten shiny ones and a couple of decent IV normal ones. Evolved a male and a female of each to Meganium with Frenzy Plant, just because it's a limited move. We also did two Mewtwo raids at the end while we pondered what on earth was going on with the weird ditto-nut thing.

Yesterday afternoon we raided as much as we could, although T5s were a bit thin on the ground. At one point we drove from Takapuna to Sunnynook without finding one. Managed five in total, I think, and they were all weather boosted, which was fantastic. Maybe it's RNG or the weather boost, but I've never seen so many good IV Mewtwo. On Saturday I caught a 98% - we had two lobbies and there was a total of 3 98%s and a 100% among about 26 people. Yesterday one of our crew caught a 96%, 98% and 100%. My son and sister both caught a 100% as well, and my son caught a 96% too. My best was 91% but I got a couple of high 80's with 15 attack, which I was happy about. I'm going to wait until Mewtwo finishes and then choose which ones get which moves. I'll probably keep one of each of the new moves, because I suspect they might not come back, and I'd like a couple of decent Focus Blast and Psychic specimens. My 98% from Saturday has Psychic so I might just keep it that way. I had my first run away from me yesterday - that hurt, lol. The poor IV ones that I catch will get re-rolled, but I'm saving my bad EX-caught ones for trading, since they all have Shadow Ball or Hyper Beam.

I had a car load of people on Saturday - we did a bunch of Mewtwo raids before Community Day, but we ran out of time to try and get down to Otago University to start the event, so ended up starting in the main street of Dunedin. Definitely a slow start with a significant number of Kanto Pokemon over Chikorita (although my second Chikorita was a shiny) - then there was that glitch about 15-20 minutes into the game and then - wham, all the Chikorita came out.

It was a very slow shiny start after the first - one of the people I was with was getting a shiny every minute (ish), however by the end of the night I thought I had ended with around 15 .. however the true count was 19! I have actually now hit the point where my "slack" bag space is not enough for my day to day play and I am looking at my shinies and am thinking that I have to get rid of a significant portion before I head away to Europe (unless we can purchase more bag space between now and then) ..

Storage space is definitely an issue, especially with trading. I'm hanging onto things I would normally trash, like bad IV research reward legendaries and L35 meta-relevant types for trading fodder. I have around 80 spare spaces - just enough for a lucky egg session, plus about 100 things saved to trade, but it's getting really hard to find things to discard when I catch new Mewtwos and shinies. At some point I'm going to have to get rid of some shinies - at least reroll them to see if I get better IVs, which feels slightly less bad than simply transferring them. Surely Gen 4 is just around the corner - it's been almost a full year since Gen 3 dropped and they've strung out the other gens as much as possible. And I would hope we'd get that extra 500 spaces along with it.

I'm looking forward to having new things to catch, and I've been preparing like crazy for evolutions like Rhyperior. I caught a 100% weather boosted Rhyhorn the other day - I've been searching for a decent one for ages. And my son and I traded year-old average IV wild-caught Togetics and they became lucky, so they'll definitely become Togekiss. I've also been sitting on a 100% Magnemite that I caught at a nest earlier this year.

Oh, I downloaded the Pokekeys keyboard for iOS the other day. It's really awesome. It has all the 100 IV search strings pre-programmed and you can set up custom Unicode character shortcuts for Pokemon naming (or use theirs). I was using the UniChar keyboard but this is much easier.

I had 200 spare slots for Pokemon when I left home this morning, before I went to lunch I was down to 9 spare slots (having caught 191 Pokemon between 8.30am-1.30pm)
So I appraised them all, marked the high IV Pokemon and the 0% I found, and deleted approx 100. At lunchtime I filled that space back up with catches and had to do another round of deleting after lunch in order to make sure I had some free space for the ride home along with my evening dog walk.

I am going to have to take a second/third/fourth look at the Pokemon I am keeping for Generation 4 and see if some can be sacrificed, and I have already called out to fellow team mates to see if we can arrange some trading time for my 2017/early 2018 Pokemon I have marked for trade (part of an effort to clear out some of the early low IV evolves I did before I knew better) before I leave for Europe. It has been hard deleting things like multiple 96% Geodudes because I already have more 96/98% than I can handle and I really don't need anymore Golem's in my attack squad. I may even have to delete some of the lucky Pokemon I have been holding on to (those that evolve in Gen4 or are meta relevant) as part of the clean-up to make sure I have enough storage space for daily play/community day while we all wait for Gen4 and the very needed bag upgrade space.

It only feels like a month or so that cleared out my storage space down to 1100 (so 400 free slots) so I am not exactly sure where all that free space went to (it wasn't all taken up by CD shinies ...)
