I know its not very useful to run the laptop in that state, but if it boots OK it would tend to point to it being a Network port/driver issue.

Just so I am crystal clear, are you suggesting I disable the LAN/Network device driver in Windows, then rebooting with everything still plugged in (dock and Ethernet cable included) to isolate whether it is an issue at the laptop end or something that my network is throwing at the laptop? If so I'll certainly give it a shot. Cheers.

Since Windows drivers aren't loaded in the UEFI firmware, I doubt this will do anything

Ok good to know, thanks Nathan. I have plenty of other scenarios to try as per my previous post. Will let y'all know if successful or not after I get a chance to play around with my set up.

See if Lenovo support can send you an ethernet adapter (for free) for your Carbon, to connect to ethernet but bypassing the dock?

See if there is an option in bios setup to disable onboard lan. Also try plugging the laptop into your network switch but Unplug all other devices from the switch. This is to tell if having a live network cable plugged in will cause the problem. Or if it is another device on your network that is causing the problem.

What are you using to power the laptop - are you using the docking power supply plugged into the dock and not some other combination? do you have anything else plugged into the dock? Can you plug your laptop into an isolated switch (not a router)?

One came with the laptop. I plugged the same Ethernet cable that was going into the dock, directly into the laptop using the Ethernet adaptor and it booted up just fine. So the dock itself definitely does not like a/my network connection...

Yes thanks to many requests from Lenovo, I have updated all drivers/firmware/BIOS possible as mentioned in my original post.

Power is provided to dock which then passes power to the laptop via the proprietary Lenovo dock connector.

What else do I have plugged into the dock?

Monitor via DVI
Monitor via DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor and HDMI cable to monitor
Keyboard
Wireless Mouse
Printer
Ethernet
Audio out to external speakers

Note that the exact combination worked with an older Lenovo laptop and the dock it came with (which is a different type of dock to the one I'm having isssues with now).

I've seen similar issues before but with HP and Toshiba docking stations.

The dock power supply is being used with the dock. Both the dock's power supply and the power supply supplied with the laptop are 65W. They are identical power supplies.

What would unplugging _everything_ from the dock except for power and network achieve? I'd just be staring at the dock. Or do you mean also leaving the laptop plugged into the dock and seeing what happens on the laptop screen?

The laptop will boot fine when on wireless and not connected to the dock. You can then connect the laptop to the dock and everything works perfectly.

As mentioned above, if I have the wired network connected directly to the laptop, and everything else connected to the dock (including the laptop), it boots up fine too.
