Hi There,

I have been trying to resolve this and now I am stuck.

Can you please review the information below and offer a second opinion if I am correct.

ONT(100Mb/s and 20Mb/s with 2 degrees) ----- new 3 meter CAT 6 ---- new EdgeRouter 4 with firmware 2.0.0 --- eth0 (WAN) has no link.

ER4 eth0 does not get a green light.
I tried to set 100Mb/s full duplex and Auto Negotiation as well, and I just can not get the ONT to talk to the ER4 on eth0.
Reset the fimrware, read the article here
https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=205740

read ubnt.com forums, I am out of ideas now.

I suspect the ISP end of the ethernet port need to be set to Auto negotiation for me to have a link on the ER4 eth0 !?

Interestingly if I plug my ER4 eth0 ------ into any other device eth0 at home (iMac eth port or even the FritzBox eth0 port) then the ER4 eth0 link light comes on and I have a 1GB FD connection between them.

show interfaces ethernet physical (shows me)
WAN eth0 has Auto negotiation ON 100Mb/s and Full Duplex with NO link detected.
LAN eth1 is fine 1000Mb/s FD with link

I have tried three different cat 5e and cat6 cables so I assume not a faulty cable issue.
If I plug the ONT into the FritzBox 7490 eth0 then I get a link from the ONT just fine.

Do I have a faulty ER4 on hand ?

Update.

Does look like an issue on the 2degrees end.

I moved from a 2degrees fiber 100/20Mbps plan to a 900/400Mbps plan.
It was in theory enabled today.

When I plug the ONT CAT6 ethernet cable from the ONT into a Gigabit switch I get 100Mbps FDX.
My speedtest now shows 100/100 ?? talking to 2degrees now.

Chorus came back with a 'no issue on our end' but the 2 degrees support can not get the factory reset FritzBox to run at 1000FDX ???
Faulty ONT ?

1) Replace your Ethernet cable running to the ONT.
2) Ensure your Ethernet ports are not in "Green Mode" on the Fritz!Box:

Edit: Try using the Fritz!Box... Just saw you're using an Edgerouter or try another device to the router to see if it negotiates at Gigabit (Orange Light).

Hi !

We did that already, two days in a row, no change so far !
Tried two CAT6 and one CAT5e cable from the ONT LAN1 to the FritzBox LAN1 port, no change.

Waiting for 2D to get back to me with an update !

The 2d support person also said my Fritzbox ports are on Gigabit settings and that looks fine.
Given I can not get gigabit on my ER4 eth0 port, this is not a surprise.

I am getting a C or sometimes a D line quality on http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
There could be a lot of Tcp/IP retransmits packet losses.
Right now I suspect the ONT or my fibre or further upstream has some issue.

2D ====> chorus network ==== ONT<===== FritzBox 7490 LAN1 port

Just be patient. It is not a "simple" fix depending on what it is. It sounds like an ONT provisioning issue so 2degrees will have to escalate to Chorus who will then investigate.

Speedtests etc won't show anything and are not a reliable way to test. Leave the Fritz!Box connected as 2degrees can test via the router itself and check logs etc.

Again, patience.

What colour does the lan1 light up to on the Chorus ONT? Green = 100mbit orange = 1000 mbit.

That sounds very much like one end is set to fixed speed and the other end is set to autonegotiate.

ONT LAN1 light is green, so 100FDX.
If I plug the ONT LAN1 into my gigabit switch, same 100FDX green.
If I plug the ONT LAN1 into my iMac ethernet port(just to see what speed they negotiate) it is 100FDX green.

So yes, 100FDX regardless of what I plug it into.
My gigabit switch and ER4 can happily connect at 1000FDX.

Offtopic, just tried ntopng the first time, very nice tool on first look

Chorus arrived on Saturday and replaced a faulty ONT device.
Port LAN 1 on the ONT was faulty.
After that happy days, all mostly snapped into place.
