Background

Today I bought a Belkin Bluetooth Adapter, model F8T003. It was only $39US and figured it was worth a shot getting it to support the Headset Profile, something it claims not to do.

Many Bluetooth device makers like Belkin have not kept up to date with Widcomm releases, like TDK has. But since many use the same chipset I figured why not try other released software with my Belkin adapter with a CSR USB chipset.

After trying the TDK software, I was able to find one that will support most CSR devices.

How To Setup the Headset Profile in CSR Devices

1. Find out which Chipset you use. You need CSR, look here

2. Download the Acer CSR software.

3. Unpack and install the software. Your device may be recognized by name or as a generic CSR device.

4. Enjoy. I'm using the Belkin with my Jabra right now!!!

P.S. If you have some trouble with the drivers from Acer, look at some ideas here

Regards,

Ken Williams

What brand are you using? TDK, Belkin, Bluetake, DLIN use CSR...

Can it be: CSR USB Bluetooth Device?
If yes, it's CSR. :-)

Let should be enough. Why don't you give it a try.

Hi

I also tried to install my HBH-20 as a Headset to the Acer BT-500. I tried it by myself and also by the guide of M. Freitas (both looks the same). I can see the bluetooth Audio, but there is simply no sound at all! I turned the sound of all devices to the max, but still only silence. Has anyone an idea what I'm doing wrong?
Back to the normal soundcard, I can hear sound (of course).

Thnx!

Have you checked in the Control Panel, Sound and Multimedia to see if it's directing the output to Bluetooth, like in the Guide?

Have you followed our Guide on how to use the headset?

What happens when you right-click the headset connection in the Bluetooth window and select Connect? It should ring your Bluetooth headset, and you have to click the button in it once, like it was a normal phone call. Does this happen?

I'm very interested in getting a USB BT adapter and a BT headset for my PC.

Here's my killer question: is it worth all the time and money?

If I want a wireless headset, am I crazy to use Bluetooth? I love the whole concept but I don't wanna spend $300+ and have it wind up sounding horrible. Now, if it can sound great, what models should I get? I'm looking at the TDK adapter but I haven't decided on a headset yet.

Thanks for your help

No, it doesn't sound great. It's mono, and the bandwidth is not optimised, if you want to listen music (MP3 or CD). Remember, the headset profile was created for mobile phones!

Bluetooth 1.2 implements special profiles for stereo headsets - then it'll be worth. Just wait a couple of months before you buy.

Aww, you're killing my dream.

Actually, I don't need stereo as all I want to use this for is VOIP calls. (It gets a little uncomfortable sitting at my desk with a wired headset on all day.) I looked at the phonebridge.com thing that lets me plug a cordless phone into my sound card but I like the sexiness of Bluetooth headsets.

So, considering that I'm gonna use this for voice calls only, is the sound quality still not up to par? If the sound is good, which model headset would you recommend?

Thanks

Well, for VoIP then it's all right - I use it with Roger Wilco while gaming
