Hi, great forum and tutorials.

Still I can't find out how to get from ipaq using bluetooth to pc (on xp) and then out to the internet via a netgear 814 ADSL router.

I have DHCP on the ADSL router.

Have followed all the tutorials - and even though a bluetooth network connection is made it still does not surf the net in Internet Explorer.

Hope someone can help.

Ta

Mike, the guides will work for ADSL, cable modem or even dial up. What's the IP address range your router's DHCP is assigning? What's the IP address in your computer?

Have a look on the first article in our Bluetooth Guides. Make sure the network you have does not have another 192.168.0.1 already.

And since you have ADSL I assume you're running a personal firewall. Turn it off completely and try again. If it works, you'll have to create rules to allow the Bluetooth to communicate.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply
I did have the adsl router with ip address 192.168.0.1 giving addresses of 2 to 5 with dhcp
I have changed this to 192.168.0.128 giving 129-132

It didn't work
I tried the XP network wizard and then changed by hand, the following is the output tp ipconfig.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Stanley.MIKESTANAMD>ipconfig /all

C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Stanley.MIKESTANAMD>

All tghe firewalls are off.

I have downloaded vxutil
I can ping 192.168.0.1 and 132 and 192
also 212.159.13.49 pings ok

192.168.0.128 does not ping
I work for alcan who have a site at www.alcan.com at 32.97.84.48 and that pings

IE trying to open http://32.97.84.48 on the desktop works ok but not on the ipaq

Now what does that tell me? - nothing !!!

I hope it means something to you

Thanks

If you're using ICS or XP Bridge the Bluetooth adapter must be manually set to 192.168.0.1, and it'll hand out addresses in the 192.168.0.x range - so it may conflict with your router still. Better way is to move the router to 192.168.2.x range.

I assume you're using a Widcomm based Bluetooth on your computer. If this is the case, make sure your Network Access service on the Bluetooth configuration is set to Allow Internet Access, not Allow Private Network.

I don't know what widcomm is - I am using MSI USB dongle with XP
And yes I think so.

Thanks greatly for your help by the way.
Very quick replies - it's 12:15AM (midnight and a bit, what is it there, are you at home or work>)

11:20AM New Zealand time here...

You can right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and select Advanced Configuration. Change to the Services tab and open the Network Access properties. You want something like this:

And after changing the router DHCP and IP configurations have you removed all Bluetooth connections and followed our Bluetooth Guides to the letter? (I mean it, I've seen some people skip a step and miss the whole thing)...

Also some firewalls have to be disabled and the option to start with Windows turned off - mainly Symantec Norton Internet Security. Zone Alarm is really bad for this too.

Eureka !!!!

I deleted all bluetooth on PDA
Then followed the guide

one difference - ie the lan connector set to get auto ip address and dns- I left it & OK

What made the difference I thinh was the internet sharing which was off.

Now I can browse the internet in internet explorer.

Thanks O magic man.
All the best.

I will repay
