I was driving past the chch one at 2.30am on way home from work and place was empty so thought I might drop in. Thought what the heck might as well upgrade as currently have a 3gs, Turns out was not possible as I still have a year left on my current contract and they said I would have to buy the phone outright. Oh well never mind.

I got an email from telecom about the phone, but nothing directly saying it was shipped. No tracking number.

Also, I seem to get some prepaid Xmas deal worth a $120 over the next 6 months

If you bought an iPhone 4s here in New Zealand, I've created a "iPhone 4s Owners' Thread" now.

yann: Interesting experience getting my phone. Wasted two hours of my life waiting in the Telecom Wellington queue.

I then heard there were handsets available at Vodafone so left my place in the queue to investigate seeing as I just wanted to purchase it outright.

The Telecom queue was just processing up to the mid thirties in terms of the line number after nearly two hours, with about 30 or so more people to go. I headed off to Vodafone and was in and out in about two minutes with my phone. Vodafone only had black units left in stock and of the 16Gb/32Gb varieties as far as I was aware which was fine for me. I just feel sorry for the people still waiting in the queue at Telecom to get their phones.

Interesting evening really - Oh well :)

Only a waste if you wanted to buy outright, regardless of which operator. Otherwise if those people want to use Telecom XT, it is not.

Doesn't say what it is exactly. I just enter my details on a webpage after my sim has been sorted and let the magic happen...

Noticed today that Telecom has actually taken the money out of my account properly (i.e. not just authorized it) so hopefully they are shipping out today. I wonder where they are shipping from? Auckland?

It's ok, you don't need to be ashamed and pretend it's for a 'friend' ;-)

But..but... . Nah I like the iPhone, i'd just rather spend half the price on an Android. Don't particularly need an ultra high res screen & all the other details :p

Thought about buying a 3G|S? It compares very well to upper-mid-range Android handsets, and the software library, support and accessory availability is far better.

Eh, would rather an Android handset at that price. I'd rather something that isn't out of date due to support being run out. I mean I like iOS, I also like Android. Don't what what I like more as I haven't had a chance to use both equally as much. There's pros and cons of both so yeah.. its hard to say really. WP7 is pretty awesome too tbh, the only "smartphone" I haven't liked it Symbian o__o.
I've a 3GS, bought over 2 years ago. It has received regular updates from Apple, and is running the latest and greatest (iOS 5). Apple is still actively selling these, so I dont see software support going away any time soon.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy S phone, bought about 1 year ago. Support was an issue from the very beginning.  It came with Android 2.2. I had to wait quite a while for Samsung to release 2.3. Now it sounds like there will be no more official Android release from Samsung. That sucks. I much prefer Apple's approach to updates.

Strange, do you have a debit or credit card? I have a Westpac Debit Plus Visa and noticed that they authorized the charge on Wednesday but the money did not actually come out until today.
